Weight Gain & Menopause {or Hypothyroidism?}

Within the past year, I have gone through menopause and have also gained almost ten pounds.  I also have mild high-blood pressure and awaken with a scalloped tongue.  Should I attribute these symptoms to middle-age & middle-age spread, or do you think that I may have hypothroidism?

Thank you, very much, for your help.

Good luck with the tests and make sure to ask for a copy of the results.

Weird about our tongues. At least we are not alone. Let me know, if you will, what your results show.

Thank you, both, for responding. I will ask for a TSH test.  Kitty9309 - yes, my tongue's appearance is similar to yours.  Sisterof5 - I am so glad that you are feeling much better.

I had a hysterectomy last summer and have struggled with weight gain for the past year.  Last fall I was diagnosed with pericardial infusion (fluid around the heart).  Two weeks ago I was diagnosed with Hypo (TSH of 20.691), which can cause fluid around the heart.  I was wondering if the hysterectomy/menopause caused the thyroid problems, but maybe it is coincidence.  I have been on 50 MCG Levoxyl for two weeks.  I am amazed at the energy I have.  I used to do a load and a half of laundry and call it a day.  Today I've done 7 loads!  And I'm still not tired. I'm very grateful my dr. did the TSH test.

Have you had your TSH tested?
I also have the scalloped tongue. See the picture in my profile.
High BP can be a sign of hypo as can weight gain.
Hypo commonly shows up around the time of menopause, confusing the picture.

The only way to know is to have the blood tests.
