Hello! Had fna last friday. I had three different goiters to biopsy. I am bruised, but not bad. Kind of embarrassing though. I had to work and it looks like a hickey! LOL! I forgot again to get a copy of my lab. I go again this week to get my adrenal gland test. I am actually excited about getting the test. I feel like I am getting closer to getting to the bottom of all of this and on my way to good health!
However, I am nervous about the fna. 1 year ago i had an fna done on two of the goiters, I only had 2 last year. Now,I have a third so what is the chance they can turn cancerous or could the third one be or what? I understand they are all one in the same because a goiter is just a part of your thyroid pertruding out so if someone has cancer the whole thing is removed. So my main question is how common would it be for goiters to turn cancerous?
Yes they do! I cant believe hiw expensive they are! Thanks Laura
Look forward to seeing labs. These dumb tests do get costly don't they? :)
I go back this friday for fna, I will ask for a copy of my labs and get back with you. The next two appointments will be one, adrenal testing, 2, fasting glucose for diabetes. He thinks Im borderline diabetic also. Only one test at a time because of insurance.
Can you get a copy of your recent lab work so we can take a look? I really need to know which cortisol testing was done before I can comment. I have been through a lot of adrenal tests, and even had the complete hormone saliva panel done.
Hydrocortisone is different than prednisone and medrol that people take for inflammation...they are the ones that cause weight gain with long term use.
People that end up taking hydrocortisone for their adrenals can even be a short term thing. A lot of the times a dr will put a patient on hydrocortisone for lack of adrenal function....on a short term basis. What they are doing is giving your adrenals a mini vacation and giving them time to strengthen and heal. Then they wean you off of meds. In most cases the "mini vacation" is all that is needed, and the patient returns to normal function.
People that have severe adrenal failure, etc., are the ones who have to take lifelong replacement. There are different instances of adrenal illness.
No way you could give me too much info! Keep it coming, I am trying to get to the bottom of all of this and the more I can learn the better I can seek the help I need. For once I feel like Im barking up the right tree! LOL!
My friends doc was a obgyn.
So dhea is different than steroids. Ok.
I hope I dont gain more weight if adrenals is the underlying issue. I had a diet doctor tell me a few years ago I may have adrenal issues and that the meds would make me gain. Steroids. Did he know what he was talking about? I know people that have gained alot of weight from taking steroids, is that the same kind a person would take for adrenals? I scored a 5 on my initial adrenal test. He said that was low. Any idea what test that might of been and what 5 means?
No that is not a vain comment...lol....actually a common question. I don't think weight gain with hydrocortisone is an issue because it is a naturally occuring hormone made by adrenals. It is not the same kind of "steriod" as prednisone and medrol. Now dhea is also made by the adrenals....lack of dhea is different than cortisol and hydrocortisone. What kind of doctor put your friend on dhea? Naturopath or MD?
Naturopaths have a tendency to put people on dhea if patient is showing signs of adrenal weakness...I had one put me on it. It made me sicker than a dog. When I had a saliva hormone panel done it showed normal levels of dhea, and that is why it made me feel bad....I did not need it. It is my cortisol levels that have fluctuated so much not dhea levels. Soooo it is very important to get proper testing done like a saliva panel or blood, and not play guessing games when it comes to hormones.
Sorry I gave more info than you asked....lol :)
Ok sorry to sound so vain, but is the hydrocortisone going to cause weight gain? I have always heard that steroids cause alot of weight gain. I am allready 40 pounds over weight now. 186lbs!
My friends doctor put her on dhea for adrenal problems, he is a md, does that sound right?
If you have adrenal deficiency going on it is going to make you feel like you are falling apart. I would push for further testing on that, because if your adrenals aren't functioning properly, then it will hinder your thyroid treatment. Your body and thyroid cannot heal if your adrenals aren't working right.
Did he run a AM morning cortisol? Next step will probably be a 24 hr urine or more blood cortisol tests, etc. I like the saliva panels as they are most accurate. You can order those on line. The pain you have been feeling and thinking is kidneys may be the adrenals. If they are stressed out, and inflammed you can feel uncomfortable.
Treatment can be with hydrocortisone, etc. Another pill...lol
Better to find out so you can feel better. At least it is somewhat of an easy fix if it is the adrenals.....then your thyroid will heal as well. The downside: taking another pill for the rest of your life. No biggy if it means feeling good.
