What is a high Calcium level?

Hi...

I have been miserable for quite some time.  I just received my calcium level after a blood test.  It is 10.3, is this high?
So far my Endo does not think it is anything to worry about.

This is a very old thread and Tamra has not been active on the Forum for quite some time, so I doubt you will get an answer from her.  If you will post your thyroid related test results and their reference ranges, we will be glad to give you our opinions.  Also, please tell us about your specific symptoms of being hypo and hyper.

From my limited knowledge of parathyroid issues, I do know that the PTH test is not totally reliable as a diagnostic.  Also, since your PTH was just at the high end, and since your calcium was under 10, I question whether there is reason to be concerned at this point.

So I am curious if you had yo have your parathyroid removed?  My calcium is 9.2 and PTH IS 64.  I don't have my vitamin D levels.  I am concerned both my numbers are on the high end.  For the past year I have had symptoms of hypo/hyper but so far I am told all are "normal".  I am so frustrated and scared the docs are missing something

Thank you all...for the information!  I appreciate it.  It is nice to know there is someone out there that has either ideas or experience.

Same thing happened to me but it turned out my low D was making my calcium high. My calcium reached a 10.4 and my parathyroid hormone reached a 71 (65 being the acceptable limit). It is not always the parathyroid at the root of the problem.

For me, it was Hashimoto's. Hashi and parathyroid disease have similar symptoms, fatigue, constipation, brain fog, dry skin, achy bones and body, depression, weight gain, low vitamin levels, foot cramps, neck pressure, hair loss, IBS. Hashis can also get diarrhea, heart burn, chest pains, GERD, anxiety, ear, eye, jaw and neckpain, and sleeplessness etc.... Get your TGab and TPOab for Hashi. We commonly have low D as well.

Also, those with Celiac disease have low D and IBS.

Hi,

with high calcium you need to be tested for parathyroid hormone (iPTH). Also recommended to get a baseline bone density test.

High calcium is never normal!

Laura,

This has been a confusing mess.  The Endo's assistant called three months ago to tell me my calcium level was high and of concern.  She said the endo was out of town and when she returned they would call back.  The Endo returned and I have never had a response.  I called twice and was told..oh she will call.
In the mean time my Neurologist was wanting to know "how high" was it.  Yesterday she ordered all of the tests for herself as we had nothing to go on.  After my appointment I called the Endo office again.  This time she gave me the number 10.3 and once again said...oh...thats high.  Then she said talk to ya later and hung up.
So that is all I know.  I am just trying to figure out what "high" means. I am vitamin D deficent and I am on prescription D.  It was just tested by my neurologist (once again we got no cooperation) from the endo.  The brain doctor says it is at a great level and not to go off it.
Thanks for your response!

What lab range is your lab using? That seems high to me and may be worth a second opinion.

My labs are anywhere from 9.9 to 10.3 as well, but they never tell me anything about them so I am assuming that its not a big deal.
