Wine and recovery?

Ok.. so most of you know I had a terrible bout of anxiety, shaking, racing heart, the run etc... on Thursday night. Well that night I had made dinner and I made a lemon rice pilaf dish that called for 2 cups of wine..

I ate alot of the rice.. about 35-45 minutes after eating, thats when this bout of anxiety hit me. Could the alcohol do this to me? Before I had the thyroid out, alcohol could make me anxious/panic mode.

Just curious to know. I know the meds can do this or just our bodies going through what they are going through. But I have been on the meds for only a week and the Dr seems to think the meds arent doing that.

Opinions??

Well silly me, especially after reading this post. Last night had half a glass of cabernet with dinner and two hours later my heart rate was 102, heart pounding. I am very happy to read ChitChatNine's post because it gave me hope that I will return to normal. I do enjoy wine with dinner.

MK, knowing how my half a glass made me feel, your 8 timies of tasting before all the alcohol was cooked out maybe could have caused your symptoms. Whoo-Hoo you have a catering biz, I love to cook and am always looking for new recipes....so thanks for agreeing to post your lemon rice pilaf...

Oh, please do.  And could you throw in a suggestion for what veggie dish would go with that - maybe green beans?

Sounds like you're feeling much better today.

Hi all!! Well I forgot to mention as I am making this wonderful rice dish.. as the I was putting the wine in the pan and letting it simmer, I kept taking spoonfuls and tasting as to see if I needed to add anything. I did this about 8 times!!

And YES, after drinking alcohol before all this thyroid mess, I did get anxiety/panic alot. Like Stella5349 mentioned only a few hours after drinking though. My hubby seems to think I have a reaction to wine!

I would be happy to post the recipe!!! I have a small catering biz so my passion is cooking!!!

I have got to support the idea of wine (booze) and thyroid meds. Mixing alcohol  with the meds causes me to suffer more panic than usual the next day. EAster I had a few too many Paul Masson's. That night I felt grrrrrreat - but in the wee hours of the morning I  woke with such a panic attack - it was horrible. I haven't figured out IF it truely was /is the actual alcohol or if it is due to it converting into sugar. I don't get the panic while drinking it - it happens after  a  few hours prior to me waking up.

I think all the alcohol is cooked out when used in food - so now I lean toward the sugar flowing through the blood.

I am going to have to look this one over now ( I love to dig into this stuff!!)

Your rice sounds really good. I love those kind of foods.

LOL!  I was thinking the same thing, the dish sounds great.  Perhaps it's with chicken.

I agree with Thypatient, when cooking with wine the alcohol cooks out. So I'm not too convinced it was the rice that caused your symptoms Thursday night.  I have to say though the Lemon Rice Pilaf sounds delicious!!!!!

In my opinion and based on what I am going through I think it's the meds not being the proper dosage. Once bloodwork is done and meds are adjusted I am keeping my fingers crossed that the symptoms go bye-bye.

I hope other members chime in, I too would like to hear their opinions.

I'm not a chef but doesn't the alcohol cook off leaving only the sugar part to flavor the food?  Did the previous anxious/panic mode happen even when you ate foods cooked with alcohol?  Maybe it's the sugars that you're affected by.  I know I get like that with sugar - and I'm not even diabetic.
