new to cytomel-palpitations

hello! i have been diagnosed with hashimotos about 4 years ago. I was put on synthroid 50mcg it seems like every 2 years i get an increase of synthroid due to symptoms and lab results.

this past few months i developed the worst fatigue and feeling cold symtoms. however the fatigue was getting so bad i would feel my eyes closing in the early evenings. i had my usual tsh free t3& 4 my t3 was low. my primary doctor put me on cytomel 25 mcg. before all of this happened i knew my thyroid was not working properly because of my issues.
tuesday i started the med by wednesday am after my 2nd days amount i had palpitations and thumping in my left ear (periodically) i ask my doc if i can cut the pill in half untill i can get used to it. today after taking 3 half doses i can say i am feeling better no more palpitations and thumping in ears.by next week i should be up the the dose my dr originally prescribed. on a good note my coldness and fatigue are gone for the moment
my lab values (quest diagnostics)

tsh 3rd generation  1.30     Range 0.40-4.50mIU/L wnl
T4 free                   1.1      range  0.8-1.8 ng/dl
T3Free                 225  L    Range  230-420 pg/dL

has anyone else-experienced the issues with cytomel like i have experienced? if so how was it corrected?

thanks,
camille

That is a LOT of cytomel...

Also, my doc makes me take the cytomel spread throughout the day.  I would divide the pill up and spread it out.

You certainly did have a low FT3. 25 mcg of cyto is a lot, but considering your low T3, maybe not. Still taking T3 is a jolt to the body.

I find it odd he wants you on 25mcg of cyto with out first going on 10 mcg and getting FT3 tested after 3 weeks. That would be a safer move I would think. You can get med induced hyper from to much to quick even though labs will not show it.

It is also odd that your TSH is that low to begin with when you dont convert T4 to T3 and both are so low now.

hi 25 mcg of t3 med would send me into orbit especially to start. i cut mine into 4 pieces and got about 5 mcg out of each one. that is too much for me also so now i have 5 mcg tablets and i cut THAT into 2 with one being bigger than the other and i take the biggest half. that is working for me so far. i tried half of the 25 which was about 12.5 and became hyper with palps and pounding and losing so much wt it was scary.  cytomel is very powerful. i figure i am getting about 3 or 4 mcg now and anymore and i get pounding. BUT it really really helps so much and i don t want to give it up so you just have to find your best dose. i have been experimenting with my t3 med for many months. i am on 50 levo mon-thurs and 75 on fri sat sun.  i would ease into the cytomel and you will know what is best for you.
