Diabex is the brand name of Metformin in Australia.
Great to hear yr cholesterol is good .
If Crestor is for high cholesterol maybe thats why not prescribed as my cholesterol levels always come back fine. She did tell me there were other meds that worked better but were much more expensive and knew I was short on money, why she gave me the xr in this.
Thank you for the response, I was told the metformin xr I am taking does not cause weight gain and might make me able to lose weight, I take it with my evening meal so it does not interfere with my levo in the morning. Could your meds be the not extended release, not familiar with (Diabex) she originially prescribed as glucophage xr. Still exercise and counting carbs along with meds and will see what happens.
Most Diabetics are prescribed Crestor as a preventative measure with high cholesterol.
I have seen many who have gained weight on Metformin and even my partner was told it can cause weight gain...which it has.
Diamycron is another diabetic medication but usually if suffering from Diabetes....thyroid meds can get out of 'whack' and weight can be from unstable levels.
I think it all depends on the individual.
My Mother is also on Metformin (Diabex) and had to change to Diamycron because of the weight gain.
Neither one of these have thyroid issues so I would say it depends on the person.
Hi,
Actually metformin doesn't cause weight gain, it often causes weight loss (particularly when used in combination with a lower carb diet) and exercise. It is one of the first line drugs for treating diabetes and seems to be very effective for many people becuase it works by reducing insulin resistance.
Crestor is a drug used to reduce cholesterol. It is unrelated to metformin.
I have just been asked to add metformin to my daily cocktail. Am currently on insulin and still getting some highs..... so it will be interesting to see how it all works...
I have a neighbor who lost a lot of weight on metformin; he is also on thyroid med, due to TT.
Metformin DOES make you gain weight.
Usually the Doc will put you on another diabetes med to counteract the weight gain with Metformin...usually a med like Crestor.
This counteratcs the Metformin to do the job of stabilising the BSL and stop the weight gain.
Ask your Doc about this.
Alos as you know exersise is the main issue with Diabetes.
Diet is 2nd.
Never take your T4 med with your Dibex...wait an hour as the Metformin can cut down the potency of the T4 med.
