at a lost...

I am 28 years old and about a month ago began having what I thought was lymphnode pain. One night I lost my voice and the next morning I woke up and my neck was hurting. This went on for about a week and then I got a TERRIBLE sore throat. I do not have tonsils so I knew the sore throat had to be bad. I went in and the strep and mono test was negative and I was running a 98.2 fever. My usual temp is around 97.2. They put me on 1600 mg of Augmentin and I took that for a week and nothing changed. My neck became worse. My throat wasnt as sore though. So I went back and had a recheck and my fever was at 98.7 then and mono came back negative but he did say my lymphnodes were really swollen. So he gave me a shot and put me on more antibiotics which went on two weeks and then sent me to my ENT. I just had a a TSH done with was 1.40 and my SED was 25. I am at a lost at what this could be. My lymphnode/neck is still killing me!!! My ENT thinks it might be thyroiditis but I am unsure. Any ideas??

Thank you both! I spoke to my doctor yesterday and they are putting me on steroids for the pain and then I am having an xray done of my neck within the next week. Then I am on my way to see an endoconologist. So hopefully this will go away soon! I do have a tiny tumor in my thyroid that they found last year and did a biopsy on it and it came back negative. I just have the feeling this is all connected somehow...but they assure me everything is ok with my thyroid...

I think the SED is high. It indicates an inflamatory process.

Hey,
I would make sure they are checking your TSH, TSI, T3 and T4 to make sure its not due to a serious thyroid problem. Also, have them do an ultrasound to make sure you dont have a goiter!

Hope this helps and Good Luck!!
