calcium causing tummy trouble?

Hi all. I'm new to the forum - it's awesome that this exists. I just had TT 3 days ago. Papillary cancer in left lobe confirmed. I'm taking tums 1 with every meal, .25mcg calcitriol twice a day and 3 citracals 3 times per day. I had to go to ER this morning with hypocalcemia and it was scary!! Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced loose bowel movements while taking the calcium?  If so, what helps with that? Love and thanks!

Thanks for the info!  I haven't been started on synthroid yet; my docs are arguing over whether I need RAI and said I can't take replacements to make any remaining cells "hungry" for iodine.

I ~thought~ that's why I was having the new issue with constipation...Hopefully I'll stabilize so I can stop eating so many. X(

Usually calcium makes people constipated. It might just be from the anethetic you had for your op. It takes up to a week to get it all out of the system. Often loose motions are a sign of that happening.

I meant to ask you in your previous post, are you making sure you take the calcium at least 4 hours after your thyroid medication? Both interact and you don't want that!
