Stress, illness etc can cause the TSH to rise.
What was your FT3, FT4?
Sometime the FT3/FT4 can be normal but the Graves antibodies flare up for some reason causing the TSH to rise.
I could answer you better if you posted your levels here...Free T4 , Free T3 and any other tests,
8,9 is out of range but not overly high.
I have seen some with a TSH of near 100.0
Mine has gone up to over 7.0 twice and this was due to severe stress.
Post yr FT3/Ft4 and I'll work it out from there.
Also what was your calcium level and B12?
Most of those who have had RAI, have these deficiencies for a while...me included.
thanks so much for your answers. it helps. and yes i am deproved of vit. d so taking suppliments for that. what about my blood work. my count is rather high. 8.9 and i'm tired all the time and sore muscles. and just can't seem to figure out why out of no where blood levles are changing. i am taking the levothyroxine correctly.
I can answer some of your questions...
1, The med can cause a sore throat but so too can hyper symtoms
2,No-one knows for sure what causes thyroid cancer but I had it BEFORE RAI and 2 years down the track, still thyca free. Thyroid cancer is the easiest cancer to treat. Ask for a full body ct scan to be dome to put your mind at ease.
3,The RAI doesnt always work and the thyroid can still DUMP hormones. Some still have function, some dont. Ask for an uptake scan and this will tell you the answer to that question.
4, You should be checked by ultrasound every year after RAI until you have at least 3 'clear years'.
Have you had your vitamin levels checked?
Tiredness is usually caused by Vit.D , Calcium, magnesium , zinc, B12 deficiencies.
get these levels checked and I would be surprised if you arent Vit. D and Calcium low levels.
Also remember that you have the Graves antibodies for life and it can be a falreup of antibodies if under stress or duress or sick.Thdey usually settle down once these pass.
Hope that helps.
