cyst on thyroid

My mother has recently had a normal TSH upon a physical exam FMD found a questionable marble size cyst. Sent her for ultra sound it showed 2.6 cm area. He is sending her to an ENT Md for biopsy There are ENDOs in her town,is this a normal practice?

For the past 3 or so years my ENDO has order for me to have an ultra sound and biopsy ever 6 months.  My ENDO was the one that performed the ultra sound guilded biopsy.  I resently had a complete Thyroidectomy because my nodule was getting larger, although my biopies have always been benign.  My Thyroidectomy was performed by an ENT surgeon.

Endos do not do biopsies - they treat the thyroid with meds.  Surgeons (ENTs) do the biopsies.

Let us know what the results are with the biopsy.
