...dianosed...

Hello:
First of all I just registered and wanted to post this question in the ''ask a doctor'' question, but couldn't do it due to that forum's exceeded daily quota.

I'm a woman, 33, one week ago my doctor did a CT of my neck cause I had a  2 cms nod in the thyroid gland area. He found that it was encapsuled but sent me to further analisis. After the US and FNA the results came in and I've been informed that the biopsy shows cancer in the nod's cells.
I have another apointment on Friday (this time for thyroid analisis) but would like to know if the diagnosis could be more encouraging, given that the nod is encapsuled?
If the nod is malignant, does it mean that the whole thyroid is also infected?

I'm just worried...

Thank you for any words or  inputs...

Y

The encapsulation is encouraging but it is a very large nodule.  I'm not sure why they are sending you for further tests - the next step should be a complete thyroidectomy (we call them TTs here).

I'm going to give you some good references for thyroid cancer and surgery:

Sorry to be so short - I'm really sick (flu - not thyroid) and need to get to bed.  Just know that this cancer is manageable, is much more effectively treated than other types of cancer, and is slow growing.  Thyroid surgery is actually quite a simple surgery to recover from (for most of us).  Hey, I liked it so much I did it twice.  :-)

Most of us here who have thyroid cancer found ours "accidentally" on another type of scan.  Mine was found on a CT scan which was completely unrelated and one of my sisters was in a minor car accident and hers was found on the chest x-ray.

Please ask all the questions you want - there are lots of us here who have been in your shoes.

Please take care,
