hey i'm just now, well yesterday trying synthroid again for my lithium-induced hypot.  the dreams are terrible.  the night crawlies are bad too, my spine and my skin just feel all tingly in a really bad way.  i wake up probably every two hours.  it's hard to fall asleep.  i'm prescribed one half of a .25 alprazolam pill (xanax) because i don't want to try anything else, i'm afraid of side effects.  i take a vitamin suplement that has magnesium in the morning.  chamomile before bedtime helps a lot.  it's been very hard to lose weight, i eat around 12-1500 calories a day and work out around 800 to 1000 calories a day of strenous stuff like running and the weight loss has been very very slow. my period stopped for three months and is now back a little heavier than usual.  i'm about to try to sleep, the worst part of my day.  i'm extremely sensitive to synthroid and i have to try and start slow this time, i can't wait until i start feeling better.  the thing is i HAVE to sleep, otherwise my lithium will be uneffective and i will end up manic.  :(  good luck to everyone, this really is terrible

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about years ago and I too have very vivid dreams. I was doing some research and people with thyroid conditions tend to have more vivid and life like dreams, it's normal. I did find though in order to make nightmares less frequent, and this actually goes for people without thyroid conditions also, is to make sure that you don't eat for at least 3 hours before you go to bed and do not eat junk food or sugar in that time. I've come to embrace my dreams though and actually find them really intriguing now. My friends and family find a lot of interest in them too because none of them have very experienced dreams like I have. Hope this helps put your mind at ease and don't let the dreams scare you and get the best of you, they are just dreams. Embrace them and the fact that you are able to dream in such a unique manner.

Bad dreams and not being able to sleep sounds like me. I've had such bad dreams that I had the shakes so bad after I woke up. I'm lucky if I sleep 4 hours straight. Most of the time I wake up every 2 hrs. It's toss and turn, bad dreams, feeling cold and afraid to go back to sleep.Dreams do feel real, however, it is what it is and I know that I've never had this until I've had my thyroid remove and became hypo. Now what I do is turn on the t.v. when a wake up from a bad dream. It gets my mind off of it. Might as well watch it a little since I'm not going back to sleep anyway.I watch the comedy channel. Makes me laugh while I drink some warm milk. and try to go back to sleep.

YOU BET!!!

I felt like my dreams when hypoT - it was like "almost living in the moment" myself - AND the type of dreams were unbelievable!!

They were crazy - so glad that is done for me. Insominia - anxiety and 'nervousness" (skin crawling" ) are biggyies in the hypoT department.

Oh yeah - baaaaadddddd - aches in legs and joints too.

maybe i'll get it right this time lol...just woke up here (hehehe).

TSH was LOW and FT3 was HIGH when these occurred.

I have had the vivid nightmarish dreams on and off for a few years now and found them to occur when I am either Hyper or heading hyper.
In that sense I mean the FT3 and TSH being a little high.
I go through phases where I may sleep all night for days then I get the 'lovely' dreams for a few nights where I have horrid dreams about my kids being hurt.
I really dont know what causes the dreams but remember that before RAI, I had these dreams a lot when I was Hyper then too.
Food for thought?
Would be interesting to see what others think.

Yes! Big sense. I have suffered from swinging between being hypothyroid and normal for over a year, together with a premature menopause, and now sjogren's disease, all of which are auto-immune conditions. I can only sympathise with you totally. Because since the start of it all I have had the most vivid dreams every night you can imagine and the anxiety I suffer with continually is unreal I absolutely hate it. Funnily enough I was only thinking of it just before, because last night I had such a vivid dream, I had difficulty in checking if it was real. I think I've asked this question myself a long time ago when it was really scaring me but I can't remember the answer, so it will be interesting to see what everyone says. But rest assured you are not alone I promise you! It must have something to do with hormonal status, because I never suffered with this until this year!
