enlarged thyroid gland

I am 33 old female. Around 1 week back I have noticed an enlargement in my thyroid gland. I had blood test and T4 is 123 and TSH is 1.53. Doctor tole me its in normal range. So what may be the cause of my swollen thyroid gland ? It looks like a small lump.

I have done Thyroid Scintigraphy and the result shows that

1. Increased size and radiotracer uptake of the left lobe
2. Reduced radioactive uptake by the right lobe.

Whats the meaning of these ?

It means that there are small benign (non-cancerous) colloid nodules are present in that lobe; one of them had a blood vessel ruptured inside it, which caused cyst formation.
when cyst is large it can be treated with PEI injection or surgery

I did ultrasound and my left lobe of thyroid gland is bulky. (4.2x2.2x1.8) and its heteroechoic with multiple anechoic area of variable sizes. No evidence of any significant lymphadenopathy seen. The radiologist suggested to go for FNAC

Today I feel bit neck pain on the back side of the neck. I am confused whether its on neck or back side shoulder. It feels like the same due to some problem in sleeping position. Is there any relation between this pain and my lump ?

The ultrasound is helpful to show up small non-palpable masses in the thyroid

I consulted 2 doctors. Both says my condition is normal and the same is there for many ladies. Since the blood result doesnt show any abnormality there is nothing to worry they say. Is it correct ?
So should I go for ultrasound ?

Thanks for the quick reply. How old is your daughter ? Her swelling is evenly distributed near the neck or it looks like a lump ? Mine is like a lump, but its not fully visible. When we touch it, we can feel a lump there. I am planning to consult the Dr this weekend to confirm about this issue.

well right now the dr wants to put her on 25mcg of synthroid.  but they also said that we do not have to do anything right now.  just keep and eye on it every six months and then if the test still change in six months then they will for sure be doing something.  either by a radio active iodine or take the thyroid out.  but for now we just have to measure her neck once a month to see if it the goiter gets bigger.  also the dr. said that if we don't do anything right now that in some time in the future something will need to be done.  not really sure what or what time frame.  but nothing to do with cancer at this time because it is just a goiter with no nodules.  i hope this helped a little for you and good luck

So what type of treatment did doctor suggest for your daughter ? Is it complete removal of thyroid gland ? Or any medication will help to solve the problem ?

this just happened to my daughter as well her tsh level is normal but we also had her thyroidglobulin ab and the anti tpo done and those were extremely high levels  which means that something in her system is attacking her thyroid and killing it.  her thyroid is also enlarged which they refer to as a goiter.  hopefully this can help.  and see and endo dr as well.

Most people with a Goiter will not have abnormal labs..(My Surgeon who removed my Thyroid told me this), only those who have a thyroid condition (hyper or hypo)....

An ultrasound will determine any abnormalties of the thyroid.

If it is coming up normal range and you are still really concerned try and get an ultra sound on your neck to see if there is a reason why it is swollen...

Hope that helps x
