hashimoto questions

I was recentlyd diagnosed with hashimotos via antibodies and biopsy.

I had some questions... My labs have all been pretty good but i am questioning in the trend of the labs... my tsh is going down and so are my t3 and t4. what does this mean?

oct labs tsh 3.8
             t 3 free 3.8

nov  tsh 1.7
           t3- n/a
           t4 free 1.3

jan  tsh 1.1
           t3 free 3.3
           t4 free 1.2

i also had a drop in wbc from 7.6 to 3.8 in 2 months

can anyone explain the trend in my numbers?

Dry skin is often associated with hypothyroidism; fatigue and rapid heart rate can apply to either hyper or hypo.

Hashitoxicosis is one option, but you might also request testing on your pituitary gland.

I should of said, Hashitoxicosis is when Hashimoto patients experience episodes of hyperthyroidism. Hashitoxicosis is most likely to present in the early stages of Hashimoto's.

Hashitoxicosis comes to mind. Hashitoxicosis is when hypothyroid patients experience episodes of hyperthyroidism.  Hashitoxicosis is also used to describe having both Graves' Disease and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis concurrently. Swollen lymph nodes, rapid heart rate, decreases white blood cell count, increased bowel movements, and fatigue are a few of the listed symptoms of hyperthyroidism.

Ya. It was benign.
Well I went in for dizziness_ but that turned out to be an inner ear thing. I dont know if these symptoms are related but...
Symptoms- dry skin, bowels go from one extreme to other, fatigue, rapid heart rate(had this problem most my life) swollen lymph nodes over whole body for several years(1 biopsied 3 yrs ago), low wbc 3.8 (4-10). The wbc were 7.6 when I was ill.
No ive never had pituitary checked.

Sorry, my mistake; yes, you did mention the Hashimoto's.

TSH is a pituitary hormone and fluctuates wildly, even intraday.  It does not necessarily correlate with FT3 and FT4, so the fact that it was lower doesn't necessarily indicate a trend.

The fact that your FT3 and FT4 are going down, could very well be from the destruction of your thyroid gland, by the antibodies.  As more cells are destroyed, your thyroid will produce less hormones, so your FT's will continue to go down.

Since you aren't scheduled to go back until June, the biopsy must have been negative for cancer?

Have you had any tests done on your pituitary gland?

What, if any, symptoms do you have?

Oh, I already knew I had hashimotos. I think I mentioned it in my first post. My biopsy confirmed it. Im just wondering why my tsh isnt going up if my t3 and t4 are going down.

Ahhh - the TGab is the indicator for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, plus I'm guessing the U/S might have picked up inflammation.

High white blood cells indicate infection or inflammation; the fact that your count went down, indicates that infection or inflammation is less than it was - that's a good sign.....

What did they attribute the dizziness to?  The faster heart rate?

In my opinion, you have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which is an autoimmune disease, in which the body sees the thyroid as "foreign", so produces antibodies to destroy it.  As the antibodies "do their dirty work" (destroy your thyroid), your thyroid will progressively produce less hormones, which will make you hypo.  It seems that this is probably what's happening to you.

Your situation is beginning to sound familiar, but you do need to insist on talking someone regarding the biopsy results.  The squeaky wheel gets the grease, so keep on squeaking..... daily if need be.

Are the T3 and T4 tests, for free to total.  It should specify on your lab report.  They are not the same tests so it's important to know.  They appear to be free, but we need to know the reference ranges for them.  These vary from lab to lab, so must come from your own report.  If the reference ranges on your lab report are close to what we normally see, your levels do not indicate that you are hyper.

Your doctors office must work differently from the one I used to have - I got quicker response from the PA than I did from the doctor himself.  LOL

Are you on any thyroid medications?  If so, which one(s), at what dose(s)?

TSH can vary greatly in short periods of time, even intraday.  The FT4 drop from 1.3 to 1.2 is so small, it should not be significant.  The declining FT3 could simply mean that the destruction of your thyroid has increased, which causes thyroid function to decline, or it could mean that you aren't converting the FT4 to the usable FT3.

Which thyroid antibodies were you tested for and what were the results, with reference ranges?

ive been calling. --- i went in a couple weeks ago for dizziness. they did blood work- which is when i found out about this thyroid trend. also found out my wbc have dropped a lot.
waiting on my holter monitor- they said my pulse was too fast.

problem is a saw the physicians assistant and she has to go through the dr. so it seems to delay the process. I can't seem to get anyone on the phone besides the medical assistant---who doesn not know very much.

Maybe you shouldn't wait for your gp to get back to you; why not give her/him a call on Monday and see what they have to say.
