hashimotos and early menopause?

i was diagnosed w/ hashimotos in 2004 when i was 23...i am now 28 and have my hypothyroidism managed pretty well.  my question is:  does hashimotos also cause early menopause or is there a connection between the two?  Over the last 2 years, i have been having worse and worse hot flashes, night sweats, and insomnia along with the fact that my periods have pretty much become nonexistant (1-2 days light instead of 7-8 days HEAVY).  I'm starting to get concerned and the hot flashes/insomnia are starting to affect me....please help  :(

YES! Big time correlation between Hashimoto's and premature menopause/premature ovarian failure (POF) and infertility. I went through this at 34 when I was TTC. Started having more and more irregular periods, hot flashes, insomnia, etc. By the time I got my hormones checked my ob/gyn told me I'd already gone through menopause. :( Did not find out until this year (at 38) that I had Hashimoto's...and finally had an understanding of why I went through premature meno. The doctors could not tell me why, never tested me for Hashi's antibodies because my TSH was in normal range. Send me an email if you have any questions, totally understand what you are going through!

i want to thank you for your reply...at least now i know i'm not alone or going completely nuts...i have not had my levels checked yet, mainly due to the fact that the only respose i've been able to get from doctors is that i'm "too young" for menopause and that my thyroid problems would not cause it......i'm currently trying to find a doctor that will actually listen to my symptoms and check it out....yes i do have anxiety, along with dizziness, ears ringing, eyes getting worse, IBS, poor concentration, memory getting worse, and depression that comes and goes(some days i feel like curling up and just crying and don't know why)......like i said though, thank you for letting me know that i'm  not the only one that has these issues.....i'm trying to learn how to deal with it all better since there are days that i get so frustrated, i just don't want to deal with any of it, including the daily stuff that i have to get done for my kids, household, work, adn fiancee...

Have you had your estrogen (estradiol), progesterone and FSH levels checked?  If not I would strongly recommend it.  I am also batteling the same thing.  Most docotrs including my GYN laughed at me when I mentioned perimenopause because of my age, I am 32.  However my endo said that yes Hashi's can cause early perimenopause.  They are still in the process of checking all my levels right now.  If you have results let me know what they are.  Also are you having any other symptoms like anxiety?
