is the antithyroglobulin ab still normal if slightly over the range?
my triglycerides are 54 with a lab range of 0-149
HDL is 93 with the lab range of more than 39
Do you think the cholesterol could be from the thryroid or no?
I am going to ask for a saliva test to check for hormone imbalance.
Do you think I should ask for more?
Don't worry about the confusion... sometimes, it's in the way things post.
Your LDL and triglycerides are good; what was your HDL? I wish my triglycerides looked like that!!
You mentioned in your original post that you would probably be doing a saliva test. For what reason and what you be testing?
sorry, about the confusion.
my antithyroglobulin Ab was less than 1.0 with the range of 0.0-0.9
my triglycerides were 54 with the lab range of 0-149
Thanks for your help! I so appreciate it!
Sometimes, results don't post right, especially, if there is a "less than" sign involved.
Did you do 2 TGab tests? You have one listed as 39, with no lab range and another listed as "less than" 1.0 with a range of 0.0-0.9 Please clarify that.
Increased monocyte count indicates chronic inflammation, which Hashimoto's does cause. I've read that a few number of people can be diagnosed without any antibodies, but it could be that your antibodies just haven't ramped up enough yet to be significant.
You might ask your doctor to order a thyroid ultrasound, which would determine whether you have nodules (very common with Hashimoto's) and/or inflammation.
Your LDL isn't horrible, though your total cholesterol is high. Did you happen to have a triglyceride test done?
A high monocyte count generally means there is an infection. If it's not that high, the infection is mild. Cholesterol levels will rise to protect the body when toxins are present. That isn't the case with hypothyroidism however. Low thyroid hormone levels in the blood however affects the body's ability to clear cholesterol from the bloodstream.
Excerpts from the article: Gluten in Cosmetics, Lotions, Shampoos, Soaps … Should You Worry?...
"There was quite a stir this week after the annual scientific meeting of the American College of Gastroenterology in Washington, D.C. Why? Because a new study by George Washington University researchers showed not only that gluten is an ingredient in many cosmetics and topical lotions (although they are rarely labeled as containing gluten – a problem), but that using these products may actually exacerbate celiac disease.
The lead author of this study – a professor of medicine at George Washington University – indicates that anyone who is sensitive to gluten could experience a topical reaction. Wow – that is news, because up until now, most physicians had glossed over (pardon the pun) any effects gluten in topical products might have on the body of a celiac or someone with gluten sensitivity. These conclusions are considered preliminary until published in a peer-reviewed journal."
"If you would like to avoid gluten in your cosmetics and skin care products, these are the main ingredients to watch out for: wheat, barley, malt, rye, oat, triticum vulgare, hordeum vulgare, secale cereale and avena sativa."
I am having a problem with something as I post
ANtithyroglobulin Ab <1.0 0.0-0.9 lab range
TPO Ab 7 0-39 lab range
LDL Cholesterol 116
Total Cholesterol 220
Thanks Barb 135,
I guess some of my numbers didn't go through for whatever reason. I also am not able to lose about 5 pounds and not sure if it's water retention b/c I am always bloated.
TSH 1.31 .450 -4.50 lab range
Free T4 1.0 .82-1.77 lab range
Free T3 2.8 2.0-4.4 lab range
Antithyroglobulin Ab 39 lab range
Monocytes 13 4-12 lab range
Thanks again!
Your thyroid levels don't really look all that bad, though FT3 and FT4 are somewhat low in their ranges, though it's not known whether people with a working thyroid have to have levels as high as those of us on replacement hormones.
What was the reference range for the TGab? You should also have done a Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPOab) test, as well. TPOab is another antibody test that would confirm Hashimoto's, since some people have TGab, some have TPOab and others have them both.
Your symptoms indicate hypothyroidism, but they can also apply to other conditions. You might try to get your doctor to give you a trial dose of replacement thyroid hormones to see if it alleviates your symptoms. Most doctors probably wouldn't agree to that, with your levels, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
