Hashimotos is an autoimmune condition where your immune system for whatever reason identifies incorrectly that your thyroid gland is a foreign invader. And the immune system goes about attacking the thyroid gland which reduces the ability of the thyroid to produce thyroid hormone.

Hashi's is the #1 cause for low thyroid in the modern world.

Treatment for Hashis is really no different than treatment for low thyroid.  That is at some point you will if you are not already Hypothyroid. Meaning low thyroid and you will have to start taking thyroid hormone replacement prescription.  The only difference with Hashi's is that because the immune system continues to attack the thyroid, you will have to get blood tests more frequently so that the dosage of thyroid can keep up with the pace of the loss of efficiency of the thyroid gland.

So don't be paniced about the word of the diagnosis of "Hashimoto's disease".  it is quite common and treatable.

At some point your thyroid will produce no thyroid and you will be completely reliant upon the thyroid replacement hormone medication.  For some Hashi's is very aggressive and this occurs in a few months, others it takes years.  Everyone is different.

As Barb stated, please post any blood lab results including their reference ranges. If you don't have a copy of the lab results, please ask your Dr for them.  In the USA they are required by law to provide them to you.

you will want to keep and it is VERY important long run to keep a diary.  This diary should include all the blood tests you have. The date, and what medications you were taking and dosage levels of each along with how you were feeling at the time of each test.

This diary will prove to be worth its weight in GOLD if you ever have to find a Dr, or move to a new area or whatever.  Do NOT rely upon the Dr office and medical records to be perfect. They are not and you can write down FAR more detailed information as to how you feel etc.  Many people have learned the hard way for not having this record when they had to move away or their Dr retired etc.  The new Dr may look at your lab results and panic and make all sorts of changes not knowing that history.

I have this data in an Excel spreadsheet.  This way calculations can be made for percentages of the reference range etc. Along with keeping notes and the data itself.

It means you have Hashimoto's.  Do you have symptoms of hypothyroidism?

Do you have other thyroid related blood work you can post, such as Free T3, Free T4 and TSH?  Please provide reference ranges, as those vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report.
