hypoechoic solid nodule in children

I have a 9yrs old daughter who was diagnosed with hypothyroid when she was 6 yrs. old, she was on a medication (synthroid) for almost 3yrs now the result of her blood test were all normal until just recently when we have our annual ultrasound the result came out that she has a hypoechoic solid nodule on the right, last year it was not seen on the ultrasound, how come that despite her continuous medication still a nodule occur?

we dont have a family history of thyroid cancer nor thyroid problems, what does it mean by "hypoechoic solid nodule" is it cancerous since her age is just 9yrs old?

im confused, please please enlightened me. thank you

My daughter is 12 and they found a nodule just before thanksgiving.  We have a friend that lives a few blocks from us whose son was just diagnosed with thyroid cancer so we were worried.  The mass was 1cm and it had tissue and fluid in it.  We went to MD Anderson in Tx and they did a series of biopsies that all came back benign.  We are just watching it now to make sure it doesn't get bigger.  I'm still worried because now I keep reading that the needle biopsies aren't always accurate because the cancer can be in the thyroid tissue not the nodule.  In my friends case they removed the thyroid first and checked it after, but we didn't want to have the surgery unless is was absolutely necessary.
