hypothyriodism and passing out

I've been passing out occasionally for most of my life and was diagnosed with hypothyriodism about 10 years ago.  I take 175 mcg of levothyroxine a day now but still have these black outs occasionally although not as frequently as before starting the medication.  I have been tested for everything under the sun from heart and lung problems to seizures but all of my tests come back normal except my thyroid levels are all over the charts.  an ultrasound of my thyroid show that it is small but otherwise normal and my potassium levels are generally low.  is there any one out there that can help me find a better way to manage this problem.  I have had 2 of these passing out episodes now where I've had to have CPR to bring me back and my doctor just sending me to another neurologist to test for seizures again even though i feel it has something more to do with my thyroid. how can i get help i have 2 small children at home and am very afraid I have also been fired from 4 jobs in my lifetime do to this happening at work what should i do?

First thing is to get a copy of the lab report on your thyroid tests.  Then post results and reference ranges shown on the report.   That should provide a clearer picture of whether the thyroid levels are a cause/contributor, or not.  Since you have a known problem with thyroid, let's check that out first.  It should not be difficult to get a copy.  By Federal law they are required to give you a copy upon your request.

i will try to get those from my doc but i do know that 6 years ago they started me on 30 mcg and have tested me and gradually raised it to 175mcg that im taking now and when they raise it my symptoms all seem to gat better for a while but then start coming back and i go in they test me and raise it the last time they told me my thyroid could eventually just stop working altogether but again my insurance needs a referal to go to an endo and the last 3 doctors i saw wouldnt send me they keep wanting me to go back to the cardiologists and nuerologists for more tests and my doc called me today and said she wants me to go ahead and start taking meds for seizures just to see if it helps but arent anti seizure meds pretty harsh i dont want to take them if its because of my thyroid levels and not acually seizures what should i do?

What levels of thyroid hormone are you achieving with the 175 mcg of Levothyroxin?  If you have test results and reference ranges, please post them so that members can have a look and comment.

yeah im getting ready to go through a bunch more of this cruddy testing but when i took the TTT they gave me nitro and still nothing not one of my stats changed and i had the test done at Big Barnes/ Washington University which is supposed to be one of the countrys leading hospitals so i dont know.  but my doc is sending me back for more tests so i guess thats good sometimes i think i should just stop taking the levothyroxine for a couple days and camp out at their office then they will be able to see exactly what happens :/ LOL

interesting...did you get a copy of your test results from your TTT?

I only ask because I had a TTT by a very highly qualified EP dr who diagnosed me with neurocardiogenic syncope and orthostatic intolerance yet my bp/hr stayed the same during the test until they hit me with Nitro.  This raises alot of questions about the dx because I think it's something else and had to go through 4 cardiologists and 2 more ep's to get one to agree with me and send me for more testing.

you should see one of the top specialists on autonomic disorders and have a full autonomic workup to see if they can find anything regular doctors have missed.  The National Dysautonomia Research Foundation or NDRF.org has alot of info on ANS dysfunction and MH does also - http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Neurological-Disorders/Dysautonomia-Specialists/show/717?cid=196

It may be worth a trip to one of the centers such as CC or Mayo, Vanderbilt or with Dr. Grubb to see if they can dig deeper and find anything =)
