If you think this doctor is worth waiting for, you might try getting on a "cancellation" list, if you haven't already.  Many doctor's offices have a list of people who want in sooner and will take an appointment someone cancelled.  Since many people don't cancel till the last minute, you might not get a call till the last minute, but we've seen people get in much sooner by getting on the cancellation list.

Additionally, if there's another doctor you can see sooner, you might want to try and still keep your Aug appointment.  We often have people wait for months to get in to see a doctor, only to find that it wasn't as good as it should have been.

Ultimately your body only uses the Free T3.

So if you really need more thyroid, T3 med cuts to the chase.  Generally only add it if you need it because of a poor conversion (T4 into T3) problem.

I find it hard to believe that if you are having a pretty strong side effect from the medication that your Dr won't see you sooner than that.  You may just have to become more persuasive to get them to squeeze you in.

Rather than wait until august, would you have any interest in a doctor in Lawrenceville Ga., that was recommended by a fellow member?

I agree...all tablets have fillers.  Synthroid 50 mcg tablets have no DYES; they're white, but all the other dosages are color coded.  It's worth a shot.

The Dr is wrong.  I only know of a single drug (there could be others I don't know about) that uses no fillers or dyes. And that is a drug called Tirosint. It is a liquid gel cap.  ALL other pills that are made use a powder and the pills are stamped out.  And that powder is more than just pure hormone.  There ARE fillers and binders.

I stand to be corrected by those who know more. But this is the first time in several years being on this site that I've heard of any pill that does not have fillers other than the Tirosint liquid gelcap mentioned above.

Clearly since you do feel some symptom relief that you definitely need thyroid replacement.

So now the question is only how much and what drug (or combination) will best work for you.

You may want to suggest to your Dr to  switch to Tirosint.  But I understand that it is more costly than some other T4 medications on the market by several different manufacturers.

Many people have found that simply switching manufacturers of generic T4 medication will work when they have sensitivity's.

The bottom line is don't arbitrarily blame the hormone as it can be something else.

Also it is actually quite common to feel worse when first starting out on thyroid medication.  As the body adjusts and try's to rebalance itself for once again having thyroid in the blood.  You see with the lack of thyroid your body's adrenal system kicked in to attempt to make up for the lack of thyroid hormone. So it got used to doing these make shift adjustments. But now you've started putting back thyroid hormone and the adrenals don't yet know that and your body is kind of in shock and it has to figure out again what and how to balance itself out.

Not to mention the chances of getting the optimized dosage in the first shot is almost 1 in a million.  So you most likely are not yet up to the level you ultimately need.  The proper best way to deal with thyroid is to start small and slowly keep adjusting the dosage until your symptoms disappear.

The problem comes when your blood labs fall into the normal range before your symptoms are relieved. At which point you have to fight your Dr who man will be happy to leave you feeling less than well because you fall within the normal range.  But cross that bridge IF and when you hit it.

i am on the .05 which according to dr has no fillers..when i am taking it , i have eye problems  and slight fatigue,i am off synthroid for 2 days and have no symptoms except the cold arm if that is even from medicine..i think it may be vascular related or maybe even tissue damage...just my guess..the dr did tell me that it restricts blood flow and thought maybe that was causing the arm coldness.for the last 2 days wife has taken notice that i have more energy and seem more active.....i run my own business and havta get it figured out..thanks for your help

You may want to try another manufacturer of your T4 medicine. You may be having a sensitivity not so much from the T4 hormone, but rather the dye's fillers and binders that are part of the powered used in the pill.

When you say you feel better. What does that mean more precisely?  What symptoms do you currently have outside of the weird arm thing?

Feeling better doesn't mean you necessarily feel well.  Having two broken legs is feeling better than being on life support for example.

honestly i feel better when not on the synthroid, which is odd to me..i have been on the .05 for 6 weeks and if i take more my chest hurts..have developed a cold feeling in right upper arm....dr says all is well but has no answers about my arm .....i tried going w/o synthroid for 2 weeks  and felt like teenager again...i got scared of all the stories i read about being off the synthroid and went back on it and have felt worse than being off of it....i just seem to have more energy and spring in step when not taking but dont wanna take chances.....

It depends on how you feel.  There's lots of room for improvement in both FT3 and FT4, so if you have lingering symptoms, I'd say, no, they're not okay.  If you feel well, they're fine.
