itchy rash like hives

For over two weeks I have been experiencing a rash and VERY itchy body all over.  I saw a Dr. and he said the rash on my face is eczema and the rash between my fingers is hyper something or other that is caused by stress.  I had been off my meds (levothyroxine) for over a week when I noticed the itching in my ears first then the rash came on my hands and then the red whelpy rash with some fine bumps that itch like the dickens, on my inner and top of my thighs, buttocks, hips some on my back.  Sometimes the rash moves around or goes away a little in some areas.  I started back on the Levo and have been back on it for about 7 days now but still very, very itcy. Took some benadryl and the first time it seemed to help, but took two this morning and it seems like the itch is worse, even in spots where there is no rash.  Could the Levo be causing the itch?  Or lack of ? PLEASE is ther eanything else I can do for the itch until I go see the Dermatologist next week? HELP, HELP, HELP!

I've never had any problems until now.  Before I was diagnosed, I was experiencing the very dry skin, hair breakage and a wart on my knee that had grown very large over the years and had been getting treated by a Dermatologist.  After I started the Levothyroxine, all of those symptoms went away, including the wart that I'd been dealing with for at least 3 years.  I will check with the Pharmacists to see if this batch came from a different Lab.  Thank you for the information.  :o)

Your problem could be the generic levo.  From one refill to the next, generics are often made by different labs.  It's often the fillers in the tablets that cause problems and allergic reactions.  That might be one avenue to explore.  (BTW, brand names are consistent from one batch to the next, but their fillers also cause problems for some people.)

You've been on levo long enough that I wouldn't think the problem is with the medication itself (T4 hormone).  Also, a dosage change last year is pretty distant.

It could also be that the hives are a result of going hypo when you stopped taking your meds for a while.  Now, it's going to take some time to build your levels up again, and as you do, you may find the hives go away.

Have you had problems in the past with sensitivity to T4?

I've been on Levothyroxine for over 2 years but my dosage was upped last year to 100mcg.  There have been no other changes to my meds except stopping for over a week and starting back.

How long have you been on levo?  Are you on generic or a brand name?  Have there been any recent changes in your meds (apart from stopping for a week)?
