metorpolol question

I've had all the thyroid tests done, blood, iodine scan, ultra sound and an EKG so am waiting for the results.
My question is about the metoprolol. I am having BP 112/73 then 103/64 then by afternoon 93/55 (within 5 hours) then by the time it's time to take the next dosage was 128/71(8 hours after am does) Feel tired and dizzy and get easily scared when I feel the shaky feeling or the light headedness coming on and it has always been about 5 hours after taking the pill. Heart rate fluctuated today 90, 87, 95, 92, 76, 81.
I thought metorpolol was relatively safe drug - Am I panicking and these are panic reactions or are the changes in BP and pulse too quick? The above examples are from today

Thanks for any help, don't know what to tell the doc. I should also say that I DO have panic disorder and this is why I am wondering if it is the med or is it my panic disorder because I notice these sensations that the med is causing and I panic over them?

I take 50 mg of Metoprolol twice a day for Atrial Fibrilation; I also have Hashimotos disease.  Metoprolol can cause dizziness when standing up so talk with your doc.  I personally have had good luck on it.  When hospitalized for the Atiral Fib twice within 1 week the docs at hospital were convinced it was my thyroid meds (I take 88 mcg of Synthroid and 1.75 mg of T3).  Without these meds I can not function...in fact currently I am on 88 mcg and I am symptomatic (terrible joint pain), I do better when I take 100 mcg and my TSH is around 1.0.   Good luck!!

Ativan can enhance dreams, too ........ happened to me.  Also had very "colorful" dreams that were "vivid" while on Zyrtec of all things!

My husband takes the Metopropol .. he is ok on it for high BP.

I'm taking Toprol XL 50mg, one in the morning. I can tell when I get up that yesterday's pill is done working. It is usually about an hour after I take one that I feel like it is back in my system.

I wonder if your light headedness and other symptoms are from the blood pressure meds.

I don't seem to get side effects from the Toprol, but when you're sick and taking several drugs, who can tell what is what.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

It's a 50mg pill of metoprolol 1/2 in the am 1/2 in the pm.
Has dropped my heart rate from 104-108 to in the 80s. that part is good.
Being treated until they find out if the thyroid is hyperactive which they suspect it is.

Wake up every morning at 5:30 am from a nightmare. Metorpolol said it can cause vivid dreams. Doc added an ativan at night to keep me calm. yuck!

One other thing they did not think to remove or decrease the Atacand for BP that I take in the am. I think I might do this anyways myself and let the doc know when I see him next week.

What strength is the pill you are taking and how many a day?

Metoprolol is meant to keep your heart from racing, or going into tachacardia. Your heart rate variations are perfectly normal, as well as your fluxuations in blood pressure.

Can't really comment on your other symptoms without more info.
