it could be a hormone imbalance that may right itself in time.
Its very common after having a baby.
I hope so for your sake.
Good luck :)
Yep, spacing them out, last one usually not long before bed. I've never had the racing heart or any problem sleeping (apart from the disruptions from my 6 month old son!) I ended up being tested because I had hypo symptoms, No Hyper symptoms at all, so that diagnosis was a big surprise to me and my doctor!
Are you spacing the anti-thyroid meds out during the day?
I spaced mine out 3 times a day so that by the end of the day, I didnt have a racing heart and the sweats.
It stops the thyroid 'spiking' doing it that way.
Also take the last dose at bedtime as most are not aware that between 2-4am...the thyroid produces more hormone and 'fires up' for hyperthyroids.
Good luck :)
Really? Thank you so much for your reply. Apparently I have to take the medicine, end of story. I was considering not taking it and continue as i was going, eating nothing and getting by on the diet pills for energy, because I had managed to lose 14 kg, and was almpst 1/2 way to my goal. but the doctor said i was really risking thyroid storm, and i have 3 kids so...
everything i read about antithyroid mdication said weight gain, particularly if you are overweight already, so i spent most of yesterday in tears in between fits of anger and self pity.Your answer has been the first glimmer of hope since I got my diagnosis. Maybe if I've been "lucky" enough to be one of the few people to gain with hyper, I'll be lucky enough to be one of the ones who loses with treatment. As of today. I weigh 97kg, down from 111. I've resolved to walk as much as possible, keep a frood diary, eat very low gi, and get back on the excercise bike.
I'll try not to weigh myself more than weekly......
As for the meds, started friday, so I've had 3 full days on them. I feel a little sick, my coffee is not going down well at all, and I'm sooo tired! I think I've noticed more frequent urination. It's almost EXACTLY like early stages of pregnancy.
I gained weight whilst hyper and no matter how little I ate (and the less you eat, the more the body stores the tummy fat), I gained 16kgs.
It wasnt until I started to get my levels stable with thyroid meds that the weight started to come off.
Dont even think of any fad diet supplements as they will just NOT work.
Get on the anti-thyroid meds....go for 3-4 weekly blood tests to start with because if you dont get that hyperthyroidism under control, you will start to have heart issues.
The weight will start to take care of itself once your levels stabilise.
I started out at 55kgs....went to 71 kgs and I am now 60kgs and I havent exercised to lose the 11kgs...stabilising the thyroid levels has done it.
Worry about the levels first and the weight will take care of itself.
I do know how depressing the weight gain is as I lived all my life eating anything I wanted without gaining weight then WHAM! I was fat for no reason.
Let us know how you go with the antithyroid meds.
All the best :)
I don't have your problems so I can't answer your questions, but am bumping this back to the top in hopes that someone who's been where you are might have some suggestions.
Good luck.
