pregnant and overactive thyroids

During this pregnancy I know something was not right but I just didn't pin point it, well my doctor finally did it for me but she doesn't know that much about about it so alot of my questions where answered with " I don't know". She has referred me to a specialist but unable to see him for THREE months (which I feel is alittle long for something that seems like a big deal ). I have looked and looked on the Internet for info but it just seems to send me in circles no straight answers. So I have decided to turn to you guys and see if you have any answers. I will let you know everything from about 8 weeks pregnant i have ad horrible all day sickness and when I say horrible I mean not being able to leave the bathroom for most the day, even if I have a sip of water it was coming back to say hello ( lately though it seems like I have been able to keep some stuff down, so easing up alittle). I am 14 weeks and I have lost 10-12 lbs since I found out I was pregnant (which is what set me to think something was wrong I have been pregnant 6 times and I never had a problem with gaining weight lol) I am constantly tired, I just summed that up to me being pregnant and having a 10 month old and a 6 and 7 year old at home all day everyday (still on MET leave) but apparently that is a sign of overactive thyroids also. I do not really know the effect of the disease on me or my unborn baby and I was hoping you guys could help my questions are :
effects on the baby (if s/he will make it and be healthy)?
effects on me (will I have to take pills the rest of my life)?
how long should this be untreated (the whole three month wait do you feel that is too long)?
what other problems can I or baby have from this?
Will my baby be born with a overactive thyroid?
Is the medication safe to take during pregnancy?
Should I be concerned about it or just relax and let it take its course ?
What cause it ?
I think that is all I can think of for now if I have any other questions I will post.
If you can answer one to all the questions I will be very thankful as of right now I really have no answers to any of them. Thank-you so much

I would get to a specialist immediatly.  I had hyperthyroid when I was pregnant with my first.  He was born with hyperthyroid and craniosynostosis (sutures in his skull closed early) caused by the hyperthyroid.  It can be very serious.
