You sure are fortunate to have found a dr like that. I have an appt with Dr Deokle(sp) in B-ham Al, (listed in the top doc) in March. I hope it goes well.
I am impressed with the canadian thyroid product too.
Well I work very well with my doctor - and she knows - I know alot about me - and how desiccated thyroid needs to be done.
I think she feels a certain level of trust - or knowing I am able to take this on my own and will utilize what I know to keep me well.
I really have a great relationship with her on my health and it would be impossible to find another doctor if I ever need to.
I am finding out I can not take Levoxyl. I could not take synthroid either. I am having to ditch it and go back to the armour.
My problem is that I was never stablized on the old Armour. Probably because there was no dr willing to increase it enough to do anything.
I have been reading up on it and it seems that some people have to have their levels suppressed before they start to feel better.
I will look into them because it is very difficult to get the armour. How did you go about getting a years subscription at one time?
Peg - I am really not a fan of this new Armour. I have heard terrible things from others as I also spiraled down in 2 days after i got the new formula batch.
For me and many others - this is junk now. Can you sway your doctor into taking Westroid or Naturethroid from RLC labs? Google up the lab and see. I am very close with them working on getting past this shortage and really - they seem very sincere in helping desiccated thyroid patients with getting the right med. They know what Armour did to thousands and do not plan on changing anything. Looking back now with my desiccated usage for meds - I found RLC's thyroid much better than Armour ever was.
only my thoughts - but I believe in them entirely.
The cutting back on armour is not doing me any good. IT is like I am having withdrawals from it, and my chest has started hurting at night again. No its not heart attack pain, so I don't need to get it checked out. I had this pain in my chest at night for a long time until I reached 120 mg of armour. It is such a mess.
I have gotten an appt with a top doc, but can't see until March.
lepitin ( sorry I spelled it wrong above) is a huge factor for hypothyroidism. So is insulin storage.
You know, I don't know much about it either.
My ft3 is at the top end, so you would think I could be losing weight. BUT....NO!!! not me,
I am leery of the Alli product - I really can't say anything much about it.
Neither on raising the T4 - usually the T3 is the wieght controller.
Peggy - have you check out information on Lepetin resistance?
You've got me stumped, girl.......no, you can't just "pop a pill" and have everything be taken care of...........
Maybe if you give the levoxyl more time, things will level out and your appetite will decrease a bit.
I also know that when I get in that mode of "intense appetite" I have to make a very intense effort to exercise a lot in order to keep from packing on pounds and sometimes, even that doesn't work.
I know this mess my pcp put me in by lowering my dosage when it should have been increased, caused me to gain 5 pounds in about a week...........I still haven't figured out how that works........if 1 pound = 3500 calories and I don't eat that much in 3 days, how can I gain 5 pounds in a week??? Boggles MY mind................lol BUT, I also know that I haven't been taking my vitamins/minerals on a regular basis either and that DOES make a huge difference for ME...........
Now, I'm hoping the dosage increase that I got from my endo will at least get me back to where I was, so I can go from there again...........you are right --- what a mess............
this is such a mess. You just think ok, I can pop a pill and all my thyroid issues will be taken care of. HA HA HA HA!! Right!!
Peggy -- my endo gave me a script for Xenical, which is a prescription strength of the same med that's in Alli. Xenical is not covered by insurance and is about $300/month, which I could not afford.
After talking to my pharmacist, I did get some Alli and started on it -- it works, I just didn't follow through with it. The thing with Alli is that it blocks the fat you eat from being absorbed, so you really have to watch your fat intake or the side effects (they call them "treatment effects") can be really bad -- basically uncontrolled oily "discharge". I did not have any of the "treatment effects" because I was very careful of the amount of fat I ate; also be aware that your body needs "good" fats and Alli does not differentiate between "good" and "bad" fats.
Be aware that Alli does nothing to help curb your appetite -- it simply blocks the fat from being absorbed. The reason my endo prescribed Xenical rather than some other pill is because I was having issues with rapid heart rate, pounding heart beat, etc and of course, we could not do anything to aggravate that.
Every since I was diagnosed with hypo, I've been told that when the thyroid levels are right, weight loss will be possible -- I've actually considered starting Alli again, but I know I can lose without that -- I just need the energy/motivation to get up and start working out.
