rocking back and forth

I have Graves Disease, I just went off birth-control pill after 25 years of being on it.  My thyroid went to hypo my TSH was over 10 and now my body feels like it is  rocking back and forth?  Has anyone else felt like this.  It is so upsetting...

Please tell me if anyone else has experienced this!

Thank you.

With Graves Disease there is a high risk of early menopause as the estrogen upsets the thyroid.
Also with Graves, depending on how long you have had the symptoms, the thyroid can fluctuate from hypo to hyper like a see saw.
Its only when the Graves antibodies take hold that the thyroid then eventually burns out in some people.
In others, it doesnt and permanant treatment is needed....either RAO or TT.

I have experienced the hypo-hyper see saw and it was absolute he//.

Have you had the TSI blood test for Graves to verify it 100%?
A lot of Doctors diagnose Graves and people find out later that they have T3 toxycosis or thyroiditis and that it isnt Graves at all.

I suggest you get the TSI (thyroid stimulating Immunoglobulins) test done if you havent had it done.

Are you on antithyroid meds at all...MMI (methimazole) Carbimazole, Neomercazole, PTU?
This would cause your TSH to rise high if you was overmedicated (dose too high).

I went hypo on and off for many years with Graves going undiagnosed and also low estrogen levels as the Graves causes this.

See your Doc about the TSH and also get the FREE T3 and FREE T4 done as I would imagine they would be low at the moment.
Any anxiety?
Lethargic?
Constipation?
Loss of appetite?
Prone to feeling cold but also having hot flushes?

I hope that helps :)

Well, I, too was on the pill for  a long time, and, yes, it does take your body some getting used to once you get off. Birth control pills do lessen the effectiveness of thyroid hormone and they interfere with thyroid hormone levels, so I quit taking them as well. Hormones will fluctuate after quitting the pill. It may take several months to adjust. I quit in December and I'm still getting the period acne. I feel like a teenager.

When were you diagnosed with Graves? Any surgery or RAI? If so, are you on thyroid hormone? Also, what are your current FT4 and FT3 levels?

Some people will have Hashimoto's and Graves, although it is more rare. Get the TPOab and TGab for Hashimoto's.

Next, sometimes fluctuating TSH can indicate a tumor on the pituitary. Please speak to your doctor about this.

Best of luck and so sorry you are going through this. You are not alone. Other members on this forum have experienced this as well.
