Hi,  I have hypothyroidism and started HCG in early November. I have lost close to 20 pounds even through the holidays. I was always very athletic and fit and it became more difficult to lose weight on a healthy diet and exercise as I approached my 40's. Although some folks will tell you that you lose weight on HCG due to the drastic reduction in calories; I would disagree based on experience and participation in the program. HCG enables you to relearn proper portion control and strangely helped me to redevelop a craving for healthy foods. Surprised the heck out of me.

I see a doctor and RN to monitor my weight loss and will only be allowed to be on the shots for a set amount of time and then placed on maintenance 1200-1500 calories a day with exercise. I knew going in that I would not lose as much as other people who do not have Hasimotos Thyroid problems, I wanted to lose enough to run again and retrain my body to eat smaller and really enjoy fruits and vegetables in a better way. I am pleased with the results.

I recommend you check with your doctor before you start any new program because every person's body is different. Let me know what you find out.

Thank you! I will walk on my treadmill anywhere between 40 min. to an hour. TRY to 3 x week. I used to walk 15 min. miles, but because I'm so fat, ha ha it takes me 20 min. to walk a mile. But that's ok!  At least I'm on there keeping my Body in Motion, as my guy Gilad says from Hawaii. You should check out his work outs on the fitness channel. I have been doing his workouts off and on since the 80's and they work. He keeps you motivated in a good way, "you, sitting on the couch drinking coffee, come on". Even if you can't do the exercises as well as he does or you can't keep up (which is where I'm at now), you still get a good workout and he's not bad to look at either!
I generally never say I'm "on a diet" because that puts to much pressure on me. Ha Ha. But I will check out that South Beach Diet to maybe get some tips.
Please don't give up on this forum. There are people joining every day. Your bound to come across someone who has been through a similar situation.
I agree with Barb and Deb on that HCG. I had thought of taking it because I wanted the pounds gone yesterday, also, but like they said, It's not going to work if your levels aren't in check.
What is your diagnosis, prognosis, and short or long term plans?  What is your normal weight and how much weight have you gained in what amount of time? I WAS hyper, now I'm hypo after 2 months of being on medication for hyper. That is when I started packing on the pounds.
You hang in there, too!  We'll get there!

I have gone more to the South Beach Diet but no nothing seems to help with the weight. It is so hard to explain to others when you try so hard by yourself after trying to work with doctors why the weight doesn't come off and the thyroid med is not changed/working.Thanks for writing cuz I was ready to end this forum without someone understanding what it is like to gain when you work so hard to loose the weight. At least the South Beach Diet I haven't gained more weight actually I didn't gain on the vegan diet but found it to be to restricted and I really didn't feel as good on it.You might try the South Beach Diet-look on the internet and see if it is going to be something you can stick to- a list of foods are given to give you an idea.Good luck but don't let people tell you to work harder if you are working hard to loose the weight it will only make you feel worse!!  The reason you are on this forum it for help because what you are doing isn't working.Hang in there and thank you again.

Such a long road you've been on. I like my endo and his nurse. He is the top guy in this area, but it wasn't until I got on this forum, that I understand what is happening to me. I learn  something new every day I'm on here. I would like for him to say, your weight gain, constipation from the meth, and bloatyness (is that a word ha ha) is SO common. What you are experiencing is VERY normal!  I guess their not ones with good bedside manner.  I don't have anyone to compare him to, though .Lucky we can chat with each other and lean on each other for support.
My boyfriend has seen me transform into another person these past couple of months. Although he is very supportive, 35 lbs is alot of extra weight to be carrying around and I've lost alot of muscle.
1000 calories is my breakfast and part of my lunch! I don't know how you do it. Are you still on the vegan diet and has anything worked for you yet?

In June 2008 I weighed 71kgs after having anti-thyroid meds for hyperthyroidism and Graves.
I had RAI in June 2008 and a TT in Sept. 2008.
I havent exersised or gone on any diet and with balancing my thyroid levels, I have now gone back down to 56kgs.
I have lost approx. 15kgs ...(roughly 33lbs) just by getting my thyroid levels stable.
Maybe a FT3/FT4 and TSH is in order and post the levels here so others can help.

I keep my daily intake of 1000 calories to at times less but it takes nothing to make my weight  go up.I have been on a vegan diet to South Beach diet with out loosing a pound so yes I do work at it.As far as exercising friends have said I never sit still am always working so it isn't that I am lazy.If some one can come up with a good doctor in LV,NV I wouldn't mind going but I have seen doctors here and never get the same info no matter what the  tests or results are.I have been on the same med (Synthroid .075 mg since 1982)and had the doctor ask me what mg would I like to be on.I am in the medicial field but have admitted to the doctors,I am their patient I need their help. After 16 yrs in NV I thought I might reach out to see what others are doing regarding weight/thyroid problems I don't seem to get help from the medical field..  Thanks for your info Barb 136.

I totally agree with gimel.  If your thyroid is causing your weight issue, you need to make sure your thyroid levels are optimal or chances are, you won't be able to lose the weight regardless of the weight loss product you choose, because your metabolism won't be working like it should.  In addition, with HCG, you must go on the 500 calorie/day diet in order to lose the weight; so is it the HCG that actually causes the weight loss, or the drastic reduction in calories??

Even when ones thyroid levels are optimal, not everyone "automatically" loses weight.  I'm one who has to work at it; however, I do work at it.  The safest way to lose weight is via a sensible diet and moderate exercise program; the amount of weight lost will depend on how well you stick to your program.

You can also check out the Weight Loss Alternatives forum.

Before taking that step, why not check the levels of your actual, biologically active thyroid hormones, free T3 and free T4.  If not at optimal for you, then you can find a good thyroid doctor that will adjust FT3 and FT4 with whatever type of meds (T4 or T4+T3) are required to relieve symptoms, including low metabolism.  Once  FT3 and FT4 levels are optimal and stabilized, members confirm weight loss occurs, with the rate of loss dependent on your diet and exercise program.  This approach can provide the weight loss, along with the ability to sustain it long term.  I would not have the same confidence with HCG.

Thanks for all the info but what I am gathering for females the problems will not be that determental.I am thinking 21 days of hcg may take care of most of the weight and having blood work done after.Do you know where it is made or where I can buy it safely?I want to know what I am getting is not mixed with trash that may be more harmful.Would you prefer I check another catagory? Thanks tho for all your help....... " Foreverlostmom" try looking under weight loss (I think that is what I was under)there are a lot of us wanting to loose weight due to the meds we are on for thyroid problems.Good luck keep in touch if you find more info-would really appreciate hearing from you.At this point I think I will look for a reputable company to buy hcg without an RX.My trust in doctors does not exsist any more.  Kerrie

I am interested in the HCG also I would like to loose a little weight but also I am interested in it being able to stimulate have wondered if it would maybe make it possible for me to take less meds as I am on a pretty high dosage now.  I have heard both ways though good and bad so not sure what to believe.

I have had doctors say I don't need Synthyroid and want to take me off and others say I need to stay on it as long as I feel better taking it.A doctor started me on  meds in 1982 and said to take it for a life time.I had stopped for about 2 months-two months ago and felt better but I can't get rid of the weight no matter what. The last blood tests, the new doctor said I was borderline when I asked borderline high or low she became upset and said just take the meds if you want-see you at the next yrly.I have been reading a lot regarding hcg and there are people that have said it really helps people with hypo stimulate the gland and also loose weight. I had radio-active isotopes done in 82 which was neg so not sure if it is a goiter due to being hypo or just hypo.I am due to take blood tests again as soon as I find a doctor. No one knows of a good doctor(I am in the medical field/retired)in LV,NV it may be awhile before the tests are done.I want to loose the weight ASAP.Thanks

Why are you "off and on" synthroid?  Are you hypothyroid or are you using it to lose weight?

I'm not real familiar with HCG, however, I know it's used for rapid weight loss, along with a very strict 500 calorie/day diet.  You might try asking your question about it on the Weight Loss Alternatives forum, as I know there are a lot of people there who do/have used it.  Some swear by it, others have had very detrimental results and most regain the weight as soon as they go off it, unless they continue to adhere to a very low calorie diet.
