I had to have my right thyroid removed as the doctors were not sure if it was benign or not. It turned out to be Mutiple cysts which were benign but the doctors said it was better for them to be removed as they could have become cancerous. I Dnt think you should worry but definitely chase your results up. I had to chase the hospital nearly every week. Hope that helps.
This is a very old thread and Sammi is no longer active on the forum; I'm sure you won't receive a response.
If you've been waiting 2 weeks for your results, maybe you should call your doctor and ask for them.
Hi Sammi, what happened in the end. I have a very large cyst on my right thyroid that is making me feel tired, bad heads and fluey. I've had a FNA and have just had a ultrasound. During my ultrasound it was mentioned that I too had septations! Its been 2 weeks since my FNA and am still waiting dor my results. And I have a small benign cyst on my left thyroid.
my ultrsound results showed that 2 of the 3 complex cysts are seen to contain multiple thin septations and the septations have dotted microcalcifications. there was no cervical adenopathy. does that indicate benign or a malignat cysts? ? ? any1 answer this? much appreciated.
Don't sweat the operation if you have to have one, the surgery itself is not bad. If there are microcalcifications that large, I would have at least one side out to test for cancer. Just be sure your surgeon does a lot of thyroid surgeries, at least 40-50 a year. And get the results of the biopsy...
thanks u. they have done fine needle biopsy but as i recall i dont remember the consultant telling me the results of it. all he dicussed was the scan results in which he said 2 of the cysts hav a small tumour and he mentioned somthing about walls within the cysts and microcalcification they are 1 .5cm in size. would you know of any other test that need to b done before the operation, i am quite scared of having this operation and i dont want the consultant to be missing anything. thank you for taking your time and repying to me.
Complex cysts are more of a concern than are fluid, are they going to do a Fine Needle Biopsy? How big are they? If they are 1 cm or more a biopsy could tell you more before you have the right side removed, but with microcalcifications, they may go right to removal. Microcalcifications are often a sign of cancer, but the only way they can be sure is to either do the FNA biopsy or take the whole side out and do a thorough biopsy. I don't know if in the UK you can ask for the biopsy before the surgery, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.
hi, gt my results back 2day. doc said had 3 complex cyst which 2 of them had microCalcifications? they are solid n liquid filled, he has arranged for me to hav a thyroid lobectomy on the right side. can sum1 explain how serioud this is?
The word cyst usually is not as alarming as some other terms but please let us know what the report states and what your doc says when you get full results.
Did he say Calcium or Calcifications? Cysts seems to indicate fluid, which is less concerning, if they are solid or mixed, that is a bit more troubling, but if you have calcifications or microcalcifications, that is more of a concern. Did he mention if they were vascular or not? How big are they? If they are bigger than 1 cm, you can get a fine needle biopsy, that will tell you more. Remember, most all of the time, these are not of great immediate concern, these do not turn troublesome overnight, you've got lots of time to figure out what they are and what to do.
