Armour Thyroid contains both thyroid hormones, T3 and T4. T4 is the "storage" form of the thyroid hormones, and it is very slow acting. It takes weeks to build in your blood and raise your levels. T3 (the "active" form of the thyroid hormones), on the other hand, is very fast acting, and it can take some getting used to.
All thyroid meds can cause reactions initially, especially if you are over 50, have been hypo for a while or have a heart arrhythmia. However, meds with T3 in them are much more likely to cause these temporary side effects.
There are alternatives to Armour. If I were you, I'd go back to your doctor ans ask for an alternative. Many of us are sensitive to thyroid meds and have to start out at a low dose and increase slowly.
Also, all the different thyroid meds have different fillers (inactive ingredients) in them, and some people are sensitive or allergic to those.
You can get your lab report at the same time. The very best thing you can do for yourself is get all lab reports and keep your own history.
How do you feel? Do you have lots of hypo symptoms?
the pill bottle lists med as Thyroid Tab 1/2 Gr (ARM) .30MG Take one tablet by mouth every morning X1 week then 2 tabs every morning. I did not take the lab results because I didn't think I needed them, but now I am wondering if I should go back to the Dr. and get something else or just quit taking the medication all together and see what happens.
What meds are you on?
Do you have labs to post? If so, please include reference ranges (they vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report).
