thyroxine and dairy

I have been on thyroxine for 3 weeks after a total thyroidectomy. It says on my packet not to have any dairy products for 2 hours after taking the medication. I looked it up and dairy products inhibit the workings of the thyroxine medication. have others been told this?

Yes, most people know this.  It's not specifically the dairy, it's the calcium that inhibits absorption of thyroid med.  Calcium supplements should be separated from thyroid med by at least 4 hrs.

You should also avoid uncooked cruciferous veggies, such as broccoli, cabbage, etc - these are called goitrogens; cooking them renders them harmless.  There is a list of foods to avoid while on thyroid med.  You might want to google it.

One thing to remember, though is that most foods can be eaten; just make sure there's a separation between them and thyroid med.
