trouble swallowing after thyroid cancer operation

I had a thyroidectomy 4 weeks ago. I also had 2 1/2 parathyroid removed. All my levels are fine. I am on 600 calcium  times a day and 1000 vitamin D twice a day. My problem is that it is extremely hard to swallow.  The doctor says I am still healing. Is this normal and is there anything that I can do to help it?

Another hint I've just tried from a post on this forum is Green Vibrance for reflux, stomach troubles.... I was ready to try most anything.  It sounds and is gross but the relief I felt once I got it down (I used cold, low acid OJ as a mixer- others use apple juice or cranberry juice- DO NOT try water) made it worthwhile.  I've been burping and feeling as if I had a bubble or pill caught in my throat for weeks and started taking Over the counter acid control products but they were not really helping.  I've tried ignoring the problem and waiting it out but it was getting pretty hard to ignore.

I have 4 cats and they stayed in the house with me but I treated them as they said w/ people.  Keep them 3 feet away for 3 days.  Don't sleep with them.  I had to go outside several times and close my bedroom door because they seemed to want to be all over me.

Thank you so much  for the information-it really helped. One more question-I have a 10 lb. bichon frise-can she be with me?  I haven't been able to get any information on that.
Thank you, again.

I took it Wednesday of this week. It was not tiny but a capsule so I did not have a really hard time swallowing it.  If you really can't swallow you might ask if it is available as a liquid- I read somewhere it might be an option. I have had a slight sick feeling from it and really nothing else except maybe slightly swollen salivary glands as I've noticed I keep accidentally biting my cheek or tongue.  I have been drinking lots of fluids and chewing gum/sour candy as I was advised.  The worst in my opinion is just how very very tired and awful I feel from being SO hypothyroid.  My TSH on Monday was 193 BUT it is almost over.  I can go back on some meds tomorrow and every day from here should be better.  Good Luck, just try to remind yourself you are almost done with this- that and complaining to someone once a day worked for me ;)

Thank you for your reply. It certainly is an awful feeling. I hope this doesn't affect "the pill"
when I take it in a few weeks. Any comments on that?  What happens when you take the radiation pill? Thank you again for your response.

I had a lot of reflux (and still have some) as well as trouble swallowing- especially the calcium horse pills- after I had my thyroidectomy.  It has improved a lot.  I also had an uncomfortable tighness across my neck mostly toward the end of the day which I notice less and less.  My surgery was June 24th.  Good luck, I think time will be the biggest help.
