I would say that since your sister had thyroid cancer it could be the same. Thyroid cancer is not by any means a death sentence. The most common thyroid cancer is Pap/Follicular and is highly curable. If the nodule is cancerous then a TT is best. Followed by RAI treatment. I am two years away from my ordeal with thyroid cancer, now 43 yrs old. Just had my labs done and have the all clear for cancer.
Be diligent and have it taken care of. You'll be fine in the end. It took me about a year or so to get to a new normal. Life after no thyroid. But, just happy to have the cancer out.
Since your sister had thyroid cancer maybe her route can help you. Good luck to you.
Hi Jankee, i cannot comment on your thyroid and nodule because i am learning myself. HOWEVER, you have come to the right place here. there are people here struggling with thyroid problems and they sure do get you. they have a wealth of knowledge for you to soak up and the forums here are very helpful. i suggest you start reading them all. all for being tired, i sure do understand that, my only advise to you is when you feel crappy, log on. i am new to this site and i can tell you it got me through yesterday and this morning. research as much as you can. if you dont like what your doctor tells you, walk out, find another. they know very little about thyroid. no matter what dont let yourself be dismissed by any doctor. get yourself some liquid iron and vitamin b tablets, they will help im told im sorry im not very helpful, but you have made the right choice in joining up here. there are some wonderful people who will help you as most of us are just plain scared till we get it right. GOOD LUCK and just keep researching
Have they done an uptake scan? Go to a specilist, I took Levothyroxine for a year, had a nodule that turned out to be a cyst removed 1/2 of my thyroid 6 wks ago, doing fine but my TSH is high and will start meds again, they can do a biospy in office of your nodule that is why you need to find the right Dr.
My sister also has thyroid cancer so I do know your concern. the Forum will give you lots of guidence, take notes, write your questions to ask the Dr. and keep journal of all lab work. Be proacitve. You are on the right track, welcome to the site.
