tsh factors

I had my thyroid removed in Sept. 08.  Synthyroid dose was spot on for 6 months.  What factors can cause TSH to go from  3.1  to  29.59 if meds have remained the same?  Really thought removal would end this roller coaster.  What could be wrong.  Yes, I take med on empty stomach at 6 am daily.

I agree with Goolarra.
If I went by my TSH and kept it to under 2.0, I would be a basket case.
I function better with it around 2.3 -2.5....even 3.0 is fine by me.
Anything under 2.3 and I am a total mess.
The FT3 has a lot to do with symptoms too.

You need to stop relying on TSH only to adjust your meds.  Ask your doctor to order free T3 (FT3) and free T4 (FT4).  FT3 correlates best to symptoms of the three tests, followed by FT4 at a distant second. TSH is almost not even in the race.  Any number of factors can effect your dosage requirements.  And many more factors effect TSH.  You only have a partial picture of your thyroid status.  Insist on more testing.  Pituitary issues are suspect.
