under active thyroid

I went to the doctors two weeks ago, they asked me to do blood tests for my thyroid as i am showing basically all of the symptoms. The results came back as positive for under active thyroid. They wanted me to do a few more tests to see what medication i need and now they are saying that i don't have an under active thyroid. I have gained 50 pounds in one year... i work out, eat right, and i can not loose weight. i thought i finally found out whats going on with me but now im being told a week later that im fine.. any one else have this happen to them?

you can ask for these basic thyroid blood tests

free t4
free t3
tsh

if the free t4 is out of range you probably need to supplement your missing thyroid hormones with synthetic one based on doctor's prescription.

tsh is poor marker so if doctor is only looking at this  as i possibly suspect in your present case then its best you change the doctor.

Please post the actual test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report.  If you don't have the info, can you call and get the results and ranges?  Also, what other symptoms do you have besides the weight gain?
