thyroid issues impact sooo many things. I have carpal tunnel syndrome, and if I skip my synthroid and my numbers are out of wack, my carpal tunnel is MUCH worse. Before I was diagnosed, I went to the doctor because my periods were crazy. I basically had it for 10 months, very heavy, with a day or a 1/2 day off here and there. I was tested for everything under the sun. They thought maybe fibroids, cancer, you name it. Initial tests for thyroid were 'within the acceptable range', only after more in depth testing did they figure it out. (I was pretty much transparent and the doctor was amazed I hadn't missed any work..it was all I could do to get out of bed and I had less than zero energy). It was a world of difference once I was on synthroid. Dead regular periods, energy again, my brain worked...too many things to list really. Hypothyroidism isn't something to ignore.

You're a little vague so I'll try to comment the best I can.

If you don't have enough Thyroid in severe case you go into a coma and die. So I guess from that standpoint it can be dangerous.  That would be very rare but is the ultimate effect if you do not have enough thyroid.

Thyroid basically controls your metabolism.  When it is out of whack you feel like crap and has a TON of symptoms.

Some of the primary symptoms of low Thyroid among many are:

cold intolerance
low basal body temp
cold hand/feet
Fatigue/tiredness/sleepy - Chronic fatigue syndrome
weight gain or inability to lose weight
Hair thinning and hair loss
loss of hair on outside 1/3 of eyebrows
anxiety
depression
heart palps
constipation
high cholesterol
Joint pain
Fibromyalgia
ears ringing
Insomnia - ability to fall asleep quickly but not remain asleep or get sound sleep.
Menstrual issues - irregular time, flows, heavy starting/stopping

The list goes on.  Many symptoms cross over to Hyper (High Thyroid as well).

Most common cause of Hypo in the modern world is Hashimoto's.  This is an auto immune issue where your own body believes the Thyroid gland is a foreign invader and the immune system attacks and kills the Thyroid gland over time.  Resulting in less and less thyroid being produced.  This can be tested by blood work testing for two different antibody's.  TPOab and TGab
