why does my thryroid tests go back and forth?

Hello, I am a 43 year old woman and I have an auto immune disorder which has never been explained to me, but I get ill more days than I am not ill. I have two handfulls of diseases because of it. recently, my OBGYN done a blood test and found that I had hyporthyroidism and wanted to run more tests. When more tests were ran, the numbers came in normal.  My Fibro/Arthrtis Dr. had done a test in March of the current year and the numbers came in fine. I have been to the ER several times with horrible stomach pains and each time they come up with something different. this last time they said I had a stomach infection but it took a month and a half of excruitiating pain making my BP go up before it was tolerable. which before I had my hysterectomy, I had high BP, but now, even though many times I go in and my BP is sky high. The Dr. insists that I do not have High Blood Pressure.  When I explained the pain in my stomach and showed my hands to the Dr. so he could see the blood coming to the surface of the skin on my hands and feet and my cholesterol is so bad that I cannot be given estrogen for what my OBGYN says is a horrible hormone imbalance. in the event I would have a stroke or heart attack. my rhuematologist decided I needed to see a Physchaitrist.  I can not often get pain medication down because of my tender stomach, but that is not acknowledged. The only thing that seems to help my BP calm down and the horrible pain in my stomach, which travels to my heart and feels like a heat bomb going to explode is xanax. I do not take an abusive amount. .5mg up to 3x daily. my Dr. brought my Xanax down even less than he was prescribing and I am just afraid for life because nobody is taking this seriously and I know something is bady wrong, but I don't know where to begin. I have illnesses that effect nearly every part of my body and it keeps progressing.  It is becoming too big for me to know what to do to take care of myself and I do not have any support at home. My fiance believes that I am behaving more sick than I really am. Any help would be appreciated.  I would be willing to travel for testing or any advice. I have never been on here before.  I hope that a Dr. writes me back.  I also had unbelieveable leg cramps growing up which did not get better until I got out of my teenage years and I had chronic hives for 4-5 years and the allergist could not figure it out other than I had too much histamine in my body. My OBGYN believes I need immediate attention but it is out of her field and she has turned me back over to my rheumatologist and I have been going for several years and have not gotten better and do not tolerate medicines very well at all. mostly because of my stomach but I also have several problems with my esophegeus and I am constantly having yeast infections in my navel. some Dr.s believe it is a fungal infection and some Dr.s believe my incision was not closed correctly after surgery for a diseased gallbladder. Someone please help me come up with some direction to take.  Thank you!

just sending you good wishes ginnygirl, sounds like you're having a rotten time. your rhematologist's attitide sounds like the last thing you need, I'd complain about his behaviour towards you, sounds like he needs some training in basic communication and listening skills, let him and/or his boss know, you'd be doing him and his other patients a favour!

Thank you so much for your comments, and to thyroidian, it's interesting you mentioned an endocrinologist because when I had my last visit with the rheumatologist, I mentioned that to him and all he did was correct the way I said it and didn't refer me to anyone or acknowledge anything. I would really like to post on here what my levels are, but that is supposedly being left up to my primary care physician and without my approval, my OBGYN contacted my rheumatologist who hasn't helped me and asked them to be my primary and they said yes, but they are quite strict about spacing appointments out and I am not due to see them again until March.I don't think I can wait until March to get some of this under control. When I find out my levels, I will be sure to post. and thank you all, it is really appreciated. I will definately follow thyroidian's advice and see an endocronologist and I have been getting plenty of correct vitamins as daisy_ adviced. thanks again.

I know that my mom has fibromyalgia and hashimoto/hypothyroidism. Her symptoms finally improved after being on Armor Thyroid making sure that her TSH was on the higher of things. Of course it depends how you FEEL on it. But usually to offset the highs and lows of this disease more conventional methods are to treat it toward the higher end of the TSH....so AWAY from the infamous and old styled 5.0 TSH mark. Try shooting for a nice TSH of 1.0 to 2.0.    Took about 6 months and tons of doctors to find the right doctor that knew how to treat it  but she's fine now and takes Vit B, C and D  and magnesium every day.

Right lets start at the hypothyroidism, are you taking any medication for this?
If so what? and what dosage?
Have you got any recent blood results for your thyroid, eg FT3, FT4, TSH, and anti-bodies.etc
If you have please post them im sure some off the more experienced members will help you with these.
Cholesterol, issues can go hand in hand with hypothyroidism, and when or if your hypothyroidism gets treated appropiately, your cholesterol levels will maybe come into range.
Maybe you should asked to be tested for thyroid anti-bodies, you say you had hives for four years, well a lot off thyroid patients with auto-immune thyroid conditions get hives very frequently.

It sounds to me like you have a lot off things going on in your system which are wrong, i would suggest that the rheumatologist, who said you need an pyschiatrist, needs to get it right and get you an endocrinologist,
That is my oppinion, you need an endocrinologist, and dont let them fob you off.
Hope this helps
Take care
Nicola
