why is my thyroid failing?

I was diagnosed with high TSH levels some years ago, & as I didn`t have any obvious symptoms my doctor decided to moniter me. Recently I developed high cholesterol, & my doctor decided to start me on a low dose (25mg) of thyroid hormone. Iv`e been tested for thyroid antibodies, which was negative, & means that I don`t have Hashimoto`s disease, so why has my thyroid become underactive, could it be something that Iv`e done that caused it?

Some people actually have Hashimoto's with negative antibody counts.  Whether the antibodies just haven't ramped up or whatever, some people test negative.

More important is what your Free T3, Free T4 and TSH tests show. If you have those labs, please post them, along with reference ranges that vary lab to lab, and have to come from your own report.

Did your MD do two antibody tests to daignose Hashimoto's? I was negative on Tgab and Positive on TPO.  Check your labs and post them here with the Reference ranges provided. Regards FTB4
