Hi, About 20 yrs ago i was in a really violent relationship, where i received numerous injuries including a broken jaw, i was stabbed in the head, hit around the the head with the butt of a gun numerous punches to the head, but for the last couple of years my head-aches have been getting very intense & very regular. I went to see my doctor about this & to my utter amazement I was told it was all in my head (Err i think i knw that).. The first thing he mentioned was that there was no record of this on my medical records...thats because i was told that if i seeked medical attention that i would not be living next time..What i want to knw is can i just go to my local hospital & ask them for a scan on my head or do i have to be referred to them from a doctor.
Thank you
Shez
Well, it is difficult to say what the procedure is in your area, but yes, you can go to ER or a hospital and ask for MRI, unless in your country MRI cannot be done without referral.
If you had jaw injury then headaches can be due TMJ or temperomandibular joint disorder.
It is difficult to diagnose the cause of headaches on net. Sinusitis, refractive errors of the eye, migraine, cluster headaches, brain tumors, high blood pressure, tension headaches, temporal arteritis, pinched cervical spinal nerve, TMJ, poor or disturbed sleep etc are several causes of headaches. Dental pain and ear ache due to infection or impacted wax can cause similar symptoms. Needless to say, a persisting headache should be investigated. Please consult a headache and migraine specialist to rule out these causes one by one.
Take care!
