Severe Headaches after weight lifting and excersise

I was at the gym probably a little more than a week ago using one of the weight lifting machines for my shoulders, on the last repetition I must have strained myself too much and got a sharp pain at the very top of my neck below my skull followed by a bad headache. Now whenever I try and lift weights I get rather severe headache that lasts anywhere from 15-45 minutes and I feel kind of dizzy and lightheaded. I've been doing some research and it seems like maybe I injured the top vertebrae of my spine, but I dont know what that means im no doctor hence my being here.
If you happen to know what i did I would appreciate it so much if you could share that information. I would also like to know how to treat it, unfortunately im only 18 and still in high school so I am at the mercy of my parents and unless I really pushed them the chances of getting to my local doctors office is small, their opinion would be to wait it out, so unless necessary if there is anyway of helping my situation without having to get an appointment that would be a lot better, I am however more interested in getting rid of these headaches than avoiding the doctors office. Thank you for your help and or consideration.

This is interesting info! Would intense weight/stress training cause the brain to hemorrhage in some way? Would internal injury and bleeding occur from that pressure?

Hi there.

All of these aches and pains would point out to the possibility that you may have been pushing your self too hard with these workouts.  Indeed, pain ensues if our body tissues are not able to adapt to the load of stress that they get subjected to.  The headaches may be a reflection of stress to the blood vessels in the head, or this can be a manifestation of high blood pressure.

The pattern of breathing during the workouts can also be the factor.  If you are not taking in enough oxygen during training and not exhaling the carbon dioxide adequately, then there is a chance that some form of 'acidosis' develops and this can produce pain and also cause headaches.

Regards.
