PS: MY PCP gave me some Lidocaine Ointment as a topical solution.  It is speriment flavored and can also be used when a tooth or other dental work triggers the TN PAIN.  as well as be used inside the nose when that area is burning.    It is temporary relife, But it really helps to hae that break from the pain.

Trying to find the right pain relief is very frustrating. everyone has different responces.
I spent two years ( and gained 50 pounds) with typical anit-convulsent meds usually RX for TN.   I could not function on the other meds, and they did very little if anything to help with the pain,   The pain persisted. I then tried
.............................................Cymbalta ( depression med) along with
.............................................Atterax ( anthihistime for the itch/pain) as well as low does
.............................................Ativan (all taken at bedtime)

So for the most part this is helping with the real intence pain, but does not block the super intence espsods.

I have also tried alternative MEDS. Accupuncture did help a lot,  but only with  frequant TXs. I also saw a Chiropracter and becasue she had to hold my head she would sometime trigger MORE pain!

Keep a journal... note what triggers your pain , what helps, maybe this will help you see a pattern that your MD can help with.

Good Luck.

This exercise will get extra oxygen into the body and help with pain and healing. This will help you throughout life, so do it and let others know. This works gradually, so allow time(weeks) and do not give up.Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Anulom Vilom –

This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 15 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.
It is important to do this everyday with concentration and with eyes closed.

I have yet to find a drug that takes the pain away completely, but only dull it. I am just getting over shingles and I am not sure what is still shingle pain and what is TN. As I said in a previous post, I am only on day 4 of Gabapentin (neruontin) so who knows how it will go. But as far as non-med relief, I go back and forth between hot and cold. I am loving ice packs on my head, and sometimes my jaw/face. But other times, I love a hot pack or submerge my head as much as possible in a hot bath tub, it relaxes my jaw muscles. If that helps anyone... I know everyone is different, but you never know.

Hydrocodone won't get rid of the pain; I had that prescribed to me when I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed and with TN it does nothing but make  me pass out. Try some Tremidol (has to be prescribed) or Oxycodone.  The burning sensation will not go away, but any other pain associated with it might be dissolved.
