2 X-rays, 1 ultrasound, 4 different doctors.. no answers?

So 25 days ago, i fell and landed on the end of my thumb with most my bodyweight bending it backwards. I was in a lot of pain and it was quite swollen so i went into the hospital, they x-rayed, no broken bones so i was sent away saying it was bruised.

After 5/6 days i still could not move my thumb and it was very very swollen and painful so i went to see my GP doctor who requested another xray to look for a scaphoid fracture. he had the results a week later. No scaphoid fracture. So he requested i go see someone in the hospital.

So a week and a bit ago, on the friday i went to the hospital after that doctor appointment. doctor there looked at it, moved it around and said he thinks i'd torn the ligaments so would request an ultrasound on it. i was put in plaster.

Friday just gone i went into the hospital, had my plaster removed, saw a different doctor who also said he was pretty sure it was my ligaments, then i went for my ultrasound.

Baring in mind at this point i still cannot move my thumb (there is no pain in the thumb itself), the base of my thumb is very swollen and bruised, and it still hurts a hell of a lot, mainly right between the thumb and index finger, and around the base of the thumb.

My ultrasound she had to move my thumb around to get a proper look, i cried in agony while she was doing this. BUTTTTT the results showed nothing wrong with the ligaments. Been put back in plaster now...

So now they have requested an MRI which i wont have for 3 weeks.

Just want to know whats wrong with my hand...

The use of dye is a mixed blessing. Dye is usefull in outlining areas of inflamation and in visualizing blockages in the vascular system.  A certain universe of patients, however, experience side effects from dye contrast, whether iodine based for a CT or gadolinium for an MRI. These side effects may reduce kidney function and may be quite serious.  In some cases there are allergic reactions. The decision whether or not to use dye contrast  should be based upon the patient's medical history.

First of all an x-ray and an ultrasound will not provide a clear picture of what is going on. You need an MRI, which they have scheduled. Call them every day to see if they have cancelations,  Maybe they could fit you in earlier.
