4 day long headache, nausea, lightheadedness and more

I am a 19 year old femals and for the past 4 days I have had the same headache, even when I have taken medicine.  I have been very dizzy, nauseous and have not had much of an appetite.  My muscles are weak and I am very shakey.  Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Hi,
I tend to feel like this a week or so before my period. Perhaps this is your problem too? You can try hot baths and a relaxing tea as that sometimes helps me to get through that week.

Hello,

The typical attacks of migraine last for 4-72 hrs but duration is not the only criteria for defining migraine. Moreover recurrent attacks can occur in one week. The International classification of headache disorders has defined migraine as having unilateral location, pulsating quality, moderate or severe intensity, aggravation by routine physical activity and association with nausea and/or photophobia and phonophobia.

Although there is no specific test for migraine but CT/MRI head are needed to rule out other neurological conditions. My opinion would be to consult a physician.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted in case you have any additional queries.Kind regards.

Kindd, thanks for your response.  Is it normal for  a migraine to last this long?  It has now been 6 days, and the headache won't go away.  I thought maybe a migraine too, but everyone says with a migraine you can't hardly function, but I am still going to work and school just dealing with the headache but i haven't really felt like i couldn't function because of the pain.
Thanks

Hello,

Thanks for writing in this forum.

Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough but it sounds like migraine. Migraine headaches usually are described as an intense, throbbing or pounding pain that involves temples or forehead and change sides from one attack to the next. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, facial pallor, cold hands, cold feet, and sensitivity to light and sound commonly accompany migraine headaches.

Treatment of migraine involves using a cold compress to the area of pain, resting in a room with little or no sensory stimulation (light, sound, and odors), withdrawing from stressful surroundings and sleeping. You can also try over the counter pain killers like aspirin or acetaminophen. If still the symptoms persist, then please consult a physician for specific anti-migraine therapy(triptans and ergot preparations).

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted if you have any additional queries.Kind regards.
