Acute HIV?

On Friday August 22 in the afternoon I had a sexual encounter with another man. There was no anal intercourse involved. Open-mouth kissing occured, I do not have any open sores. Oral sex was performed on me. I did lick the other man's penis once and it may have had pre-*** although I do not think so. Semen also may have been on my hand at time of ejaculation.

On Saturday August 23 (exactly 12 hours later) I had mild diarrhea and flu-like symptoms (moderate back/arm pain), mild fever and fatigue. Was extrememly better on Tuesday August 26, but then I believe I exacerbated fatigue by going to the gym that night. Felt fatigue again on Wednesday. Today (Thursday) I feel much better. There is some minor swelling of lymph nodes.

Is this a possibility of acute HIV, or just a case of the flu? I've read literature and it seems that onset of symptoms occurs earliest 1 week after time of infection... but is 12 hours possible?

I will see my doctor soon, but want to see if my questions could be answered asap.

Thanks

Yes. It could be HIV. Not likely, but possible.

Hello,

Many people do not develop symptoms after they first get infected with HIV. Others have a flu-like illness within several days to weeks after exposure to the virus. So your chances of showing symptoms of HIV within 12 hrs are less likely for HIV infection.Yet for your satisfaction you can get ELISA test done to rule out HIV.

However, such flu like symptoms may appear after contacting sexually transmitted disease like gonorrhea or herpes. So pls consult a physician for that.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep us posted on how you are doing.
