Allergies or something else?

Hi,

For last ten years I've had a lump in throat feeling and swelling and pain of the glands on the back of the pharynx and tonsil area. I've noticed swelling and pain from the gland between the ears to the back of throat. I mean there are allergy symptoms such as weezyness, mild cough, and sneezing. It's just this can be a little painful sometimes. Had a few HIV tests dating out three years from symptoms developing all negative. My doctors say it's allergies and dismiss this but it's driving me crazy. I can't take this anymore. Can anyone help?

Thanks.

It sounds like an allergic reaction, but the lump in the throat could indicate a mild anaphylactic reaction. Anaphylaxis can be life-threatening and your entire throat can swell up to the point that you can't breathe, if the reaction is severe enough. I would see a different doctor or a specialist, who can perform specific allergen testing, as it's probably something in your environment that you're having a reaction to. If it's bothering you, keep pursuing it with the doctors. Like I said, if you have a severe enough reaction at some point, it could be serious. Many times, if you have one allergy, you have many, so it's possible that something else could trigger a more severe reaction for you. Definitely see another doctor!
