Back pain followed by swollen Toe

My friend has been suffering from very bad back pain. She went to the Doctor and they said she had Scoliosis also a possible pinched nerve. A few weeks before the back pain started, her big toe got swollen and was very painful. They did an MRI on the Toe and couldn't find anything wrong. She stayed off her feet and the Toe got better. Then the back problem started. She been taking anti-inflammatory medications and walking to help her with the back pain. And now just as the pain is getting better, her Toe started swelling again.

Anyone know what it could be? Could the two be associated? Anyone know a specialist in California?

I do not see any connection with toe swelling and back pain. Which part of the toe is swollen, if the tip- may be ingrown toenail. If the base- may be gout. Could be infection of recurrent other arthritis.

did dr rule out gout for the toe? because it sounds like that is what she is being treated for.
as to back pain if she does not have meds such as hydrocodone; try this
2 acetaminophen and 2 ibuprofen WHAT U GET 2+2= 6
don't take more than 4 times daily
good luck
