Bladder or stomach pressure...

Last Sunday (the 9th), I started to feel pressure in my bladder as if I had to urinate. When I went, not much came out, so I assumed I had a UTI and went to a doctor on Wednesday. I don't recall him saying I have one, but he said I might possibly have a yeast infection (which I can't imagine me having because I have none of the symptoms!). He put me on Ciprofloxacin (500mg) for a possible UTI to see if that gets rid of my problem. I didn't notice much a day after I started taking it, but today (Sunday, the 15th) around 11:30pm, I felt that same pressure again. I didn't take any of the medication on Saturday (the 14th), but I find it strange I didn't feel any pressure in that area until just an hour ago.

The only reason I assumed I had a UTI was because I've had so many in the past. But since the pressure feeling is back, I'm not sure what it could be (and me being overly-paranoid about it, I even started to think I have a tumor pressing against my bladder - but this is just a silly, paranoid thought going through my mind).

I only work part-time and my hours for December have been cut drastically, so I'm unsure about making another doctor's appointment. I don't have insurance, either. So I am hoping I get help from somebody here, and know whether or not I need to make another appointment (it cost me $30 last time I went, which is a lot when your paychecks are small!).

Other than bladder pressure, the only side effects I've been noticing have been from the ciprofloxacin.

Help would be very appreciated! :)

Thank you both for the response.

How much will an ultrasound cost me? I have a Family Pact card that will let me get gyno visits for free, so if an ultrasound is part of a gyno visit, then it won't cost me anything.

There are a lot of side effects listed for Ciprofloxacin, but I had been feeling the following from it: Dizziness (all yesterday), loss of appetite (the first day I started taking the medicine), nausea (yesterday), and restlessness (two nights ago). I have 4 more tablets to go.

Two weeks ago when I had my first doctor visit, I went because I had felt nauseous for 2 weeks. That turned out to be a passing virus, one of my co-workers had it before me. I told the doctor I had been feeling shooting pains in my hip areas but they weren't constant - I felt those pains last night for less than a minute. He didn't really explain those or say what they were caused by. I had a pap smear that day but haven't heard anything about it since then. I try to be very health conscious but I'm really starting to feel the economy pinch and am unsure if I can afford any more visits if they are not covered by my Family Pact card.

Hi

Thanks for the post! How are you doing now?

Your symptoms could be due to infection (for this you are treated), stone, fungal or even a STD (if you are sexually active). If the antibiotic you took is not effective against the organism (bacteria) causing your problem then the infection will not go away. You need a urine culture and sensitivity for this. A stone can be detected by ultrasound.

What are the other symptoms you have? I know you think they are because of Ciprofloxacin, but can you elaborate?

I know it is tough, but you will need to take a second consult and some tests. Drink plenty of fluids. Personal hygiene too is important. A tumor too can be ruled out by ultrasound.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Hi there.
Fullness in the bladder can mean anything. Bladder stones is a possibility if you feel full and feel like urinating while lying down and cannot urinate when you try to. UTI is another possibility. Fungal infection can be a possibility. Well without a physical and urine tests not possible to pin point. Guess you will have to visit the doctor. In the meantime you can drink a lot of fluids which will have flush out any infection or even tiny stones. Try doing a  ****** using betadine solution diluted in warm water.

Regards,
Khirodh
