Blood pressure medications or Advair linked to swollen throat / lump In Throat?

Hi, last week on Sunday I had a panic attack (Found link to high blood pressure.) and stopped taking Advair.

Last Wednesday, I went to my respiratory doctor and he said I should continue taking Advair.. so I did. Thursday morning, while I was going to my regular doctor, I started feeling a lump in my throat and thought it was just the heat and me getting uncomfortable in my clothes. So, I thought it would go away when I'd come home.. but it didn't.

Now, I've been with this lump in my throat since Thursday. It's VERY uncomfortable but I can breathe. But I'm having these sensations of being choked sometime.. like gagging. I've STOPPED all medications yesterday just to be sure. (Last time I took Advair was last night. The dose was 2 puffs a day at 250 mcg fluticasone / 50 mcg salmeterol. I had the 100 mcg fluticasone a week before this, but I was given an increased dose. Could this be an allergic reaction to the higher dose? Is that possible? I had no reaction to the lower dose.)

Also, the medications for blood pressure include Hyzaar and Diltiazem. (100 / 25 and 30mg respectively.) But I have reasons to say that those aren't the cause .. but I can't be sure.

I've contacted my respiratory doctor (He's also head of ER staff.. so he might know about this.) and I'm waiting for a response. I'd like to see what you guys have to say.

Thank you,

- Steve

I don't know about "thrush", but I also have the lump in my throat due to Advair, as do plenty of other people. I haven't found a cure yet, but it's been about a month since I got it and I still have it.

Hello, I've read about "thrush" on this forum and just had to reply again. I was NOT informed that you should be washing and rinsing your mouth after using Advair or any oral steroid.

About an hour ago, I noticed there was a white film at the back of my tongue and doesn't go away when wiped or rinsed. So I'm thinking it must be thrush.

My question is, can thrush spread to the throat and cause the feeling of a lump in the throat? I'd actually be happy if that was it because of relief!

Thank you,

- Steve
