Breathing problems

Im a 17 year old male who is skinny and quite athletic although i'm very unfit and can only run for short distances

For the last couple of months i have had breathing difficulties which worsen at night, when i lie down, or whilst talking for long periods.

Some of my symptoms include:
Breathing problems as is im not getting enough air in
Strange feeling in the left part of my chest
Dry cough and the feeling to need to cough something up that isnt there (this started a week or so ago after being ill and is still here)
Im always tired
Ive had blood streaked snot

So basically this all started over summer around 3 months ago the breathing difficulties, last week i got ill with flu like symptoms a fever blocked nose etc, this went after 2 - 3 days although a good 5 days later i still have this extremely dry cough its not persistent but at night while i lie down i get shortness in breath and i loose my breath which is given back to be upon coughing a few times i have been woken up whilst being half asleep the last few nights now due to this and tonight i was woken up by not being able to breath and shaking as if i was having a fit being followed by a coughing fit.

I have been to the hospital when this all started and was hooked to a machine that read my heart beat and that came back ok they also listened to my chest and said it could be a strained muscle, convinced i was ok i went home thinking i was fine but then it has got slightly worse more so at night now and i'm always tired and cannot get up in the mornings, whilst i was ill i booked a doctors appointment as i thought it might be a chest infection which has been going through my system for a couple of months but on Friday i had to go hospital with not being able to breathe they  listened to my chest and told me i was ok and the cough was a part of the flu but still not convinced on the tuesday (yesterday) i went to my doctors appointment and told them i have been having breathing difficulties she listened to my chest briefly and said i was ok and about the tiredness has booked me in for a blood test.

I have matched some of my symptoms to heart disease or cystic fibrosis but i thought if it was CF i would be coughing up a great deal of phlegm and would have been suffering from birth i have no idea whats wrong with me and the doctors cant either but breathing difficulties, heart palpitations, dry cough, and getting out of breath from running short distances.

Thank you.

You might try metamucil or miralax for your constipation and simethicone in case your discomfort is being in part caused by gas.

You might ask the doctor for a pulmonary (lung) function test to check for asthma, etc..  Are they checking your iron and ferritin and WBC?  I didn't see you mention a chest x-ray, but it seems to me they should do one if they haven't.  Unlikely that you have it, but have they done a tine or manteaux test to rule out TB?

It might be too dry in your room, this might be why you have blood in your snot.  You might try a humidifier in your room and see if it helps your lungs and your nose.
