I am having a ct scan of chest, abdomin, & pelvis. I am allergic to the iodine I get hives from shell fish. My doctor said I can take two benydryl. Is that enough prevent an allergic reaction from the contract? What are the side effects of the redi cat I have to take?
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
If you are allergic to iodine contrast, then Benadryl may help. What is more important is that the CT scan center should keep an EPIPEN and all emergency antiallergic shots at hand to be used if there is severe reaction. Also discuss with your doctor whether a MRI without contrast or any other test will help diagnose your condition. If yes, then go for it.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
