Can a severe vitamin D deficiency cause your menstrual cycle to stop?

I went to an urgent care clinic a few months ago, with severe bone and joint pain.  Everytime I'd stand from a seated position, I have to do it slowly, because my hips hurt, like I've pulled a muscle.  It takes a bit to stand up straight.  I can't sleep at night, because my shoulder, arm, hips and knees hurt from laying on them.  After a blood test, they tell me I'm severely deficient in vitamin D.  I've been taking 50k vitamin D, for going on 3 months.  I just had it checked again and it's still very low.   I happened to think the other day, I haven't had a menstual period, in months.  I'm normally very regular.  Has anyone else had this symptom?  I'm wondering being deficient has also caused my periods to stop.

I'm not aware vitamin D deficiency affects the menstrual cycle. Just to add, magnesium is the most important co factor for vitamin D absorption. If your vitamin D levels are not rising or rising slowly, magnesium deficiency is the first suspect.

No vitamin D deficiency doesn't have anything to do with not having your period.

Besides pregnancy, menopause and breastfeeding, you may develop lack of a period as a result of birth control pills ( wrong dose), antidepressants, antipsychotics, blood pressure medications and chemotherapy. Polycystic ovary syndrome, pituitary or thyroid disorders and premature menopause also are known to contribute to irregular menstruation. Even extreme weight loss or weight gain can cause you to miss your period.

50,000 IU of vitamin D is an incredible amount. Do you have any other symtoms? Usually, 1-2000 IU of vitamin D will get you back to normal. However, you should be getting your blood tested to get into range. I need only 700 IU plus my multivitamin so about 1000IU total. My husband needs 4000 IU. It is unsual to need as much as you are requiring. You may not be absorbing it for some reason. You can take magnesium (slow magnesium is best for absorption) but be aware that > 500mg of magnesium will give you diarrhea. Usually, you will know if you are getting too much magnesium by when you start getting diarrhea. Have you seen your doctor to find out the level you are at and why you aren't absorbing it (other than low magnesium?

are you overweight? my bones hurt too I'm going to ask my doctor for a Vitamin D test......I have not answer but would like to know how everything came out..blessing to you...I know how you feel I suffer daily

I'm not a Doctor but I've had a quick look on the internet...

It seems that Vit. D deficiency in you is not the origin of the problem but it is rather caused by something else.

Integrating V. D will be useless until you find the source of the problem.

Menstruation problems are compatible with "Osteomalacia" but again it is not the priority.

I read that some tumors, even benign tumors, can trigger Vit. D deficiency and Osteomalacia.

It's called Oncogenic osteomalacia or Tumor-induced Osteomalacia.

Muscle weakness
Bone pain
Rickets in children
Bowed legs
Increased alkaline phosphate
Low blood phosphate level

You need to see a Ematologist and Endocrinologist who can search for indirect signs of whatever problem.

Tell them your suspects, check the Alkaline phosphate and blood phosphate level (whataver that is...)
